Old vs new
More pics.....Its going on 4 months since I started this adventure. And I was looking at some of the photos that I took when I first gutted the "Old Girl." Wow, things are coming together. Slow, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. At times, I was questioning why did I take on such a large project, but now I enjoy everyday I am with the "Old Girl." And soon I will start calling her by her new name... but not yet! Maybe once I get all of the water leaks fixed.
Didn't get a photo of it, but I drilled the front wing window on the street side, so the trapped ice/water between the panes would have a place to drawn other then the interior wall.

Today was another good day... Added another 25' of 1" angle aluminum to the kitchen cabinet framework today. I need to finish framing out the oven insert, and cut the front rail, and hopefully the oven/stove will slip right in Tomorrow. Old friend "Charile" came by...he needed some leather repair work done on a his chaps, so I had to which gears, and fire up the old sewing machine.

Good deal on new stove/oven
Installed new stove/oven today.... took longer then I thought it would. Porno Bob came by and fixed some minor plumbing issues. He melted the waistline when he was silver-soldering the old copper waterline. The melted line was under the bathtub, so it was a very tight work area... for Bob. It was another good day, slow going, but moving forward!

Rex,
Couple of questions come to mind. How is the aluminum angle framework connected, rivets? Also, is there an airspace below the diamond plate? I was thinking if it is directly on the floor it could trap moisture there. Oh yeah, I forgot Airstreams don't leak...lol. You're making great progress.

The aluminum framework is connected with rivets and self tapping screws. I tried to use both in areas where I could. When the cabinets are finished I will be able to inspect under countertop.
Under the old cabinets there was "big time" water damage in front of the wheel well on the street side. It went undetected for years, and I missed it when I first inspected the Old Girl, four months age.
Good question on the D-plate... I do have inspection areas where I can check plywood with an ice pick. They are areas were I first found leaks when I gutted the Old Girl. I plan to install a metal awning where the Old Girl is located in my back yard, to keep her dry during the rainny season here in NorCal. No CC&R's in old town Pine Grove, so no issues there.
I am hooked on vintage trailers and plan to have one or two in my life for the rest of my camping lifetime. So, hopefully the D-plate doesn't cause more issues....I guess time will tell my friend.

I need help on the axles.... I would be willing to trade man-hours. The first step would be to show me how to measure, then install if I go with dexter. Or if I go with Inland, I would need a hand with the install.
Thank-you Hoot, and if you need a hand on your trailer please feel free to ask me.
On another note, one of the brothers from brothers Countertops is coming by to get the mesurements tomorrow morning. I will do the install, the brothers will build....

Closing in on the cabinets....I think
Continued installing sliding storage baskets.... 7 more. Also added another 25 feet of alum. 1" angle, and 24 feet of flat 1" x 1/8' alum, to the cabinet framework.
Purchased some 5" x 3/4" x 10' foot Red alder. Plan to cut to size, and use as my face frame/plate for the cabinets. The Red alder was the closest match to the birch plywood.

Help on building a sofa sleeper
Just purchased a "like new, never used or installed steelflex framework" for a queen size bed....for $50 bucks! looks like it will fit a 6'x5' bed. I will post photo later.
My question is....has anyone built a sofa with a steelflex framework, for the front of their Airstream in the past? If so, please send me the thread. Hopefully photos also. Also I will start looking around under the interior threads. Trex

Picking up some Red birch this morning, (8 sticks of 1 1/2"x10'), will start building the hardwood frame for the kitchen cabinets today.... still looking for ideas for the sleeper sofa, so if you have built your own sofa, please share your photos/info with me. Trex

Hard to get any work done with all this NFL foorball going on! I wasn't happy with the 1/4 plywood end section, just didn't fit as well as I wanted. So, I re-cut end section....much better fit. Stained the end section and put a 2nd sanding on the front face, (see photo). Jets scoring....must go in and watch last quarter.
Nice to see Green Bay win yesterday, Quarterback is from Chico, (hour south of Shasta Lake). And Green Bay has a Crabtree on the Roster...he scored a T-down last week. So if I must root for a non-west coast team, Green will be my team.

Thanks Tim, How do you like my cabinet shop, the folks living around me call it my front driveway.
I would like to see Green Bay and The Jets in the Super Bowl...Two California QB's, (Cal vs USC). I need to get Tom Crabtree's Jersey before Super Bowl sunday. Hopefully next week Tom make's a catch or two.

Rex,
Do you want me to send you one of those foam cheese head hats?
My cabinete shop looks like a pole barn with a dirt floor.
I used cherry for the frames and birch (stained to match) for the panels.
