Hey Marc...next time you guys come thru Redding town, please drop me a line. It would be fun to go for a ride.

Also, I stopped at the Marina RV park on Park Marina yesterday. They had somewhere around 25 sites open, and they are just a mile...or so, from the Sundial bridge. Its a safe and easy ride to the trail system from the RV park.

And the same for you. 2012 was an interesting year and the new year will be quite an adventure. Becky and I are looking forward to seeing you both at Casini in the spring.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hey Rex
My website is Home Screen
I envy you living so close to not only great mtb trails but such beautiful surroundings.
We ride in the desert here which has its own beauty but sure is rocky with lots of Cactus.
Here's a picture of Palo Duro canyon outside of Amarillo which is about 400 miles from us. We were up there a little camping trip got to do some riding. Lots of fun single track.
Take care and Merry Christmas.
Mike

P.S. I think that this post will add my 5th rivet and make me a "Rivet Master".... very cool to get there with a post to you and the Bunny!

Yesterday, I went on another epic Mtn. bike ride…from my house to the top of Chamise Peak. Chamise Peak trail is a 2.4 mile single-dirt-track, starting at Flanagan trail head and ending at the highest peak between Shasta Dam & Keswick Dam. Once you make to it to the top, you're rewarded with a 360 degree view of Shasta dam, Shasta Lake City, and Keswick reservoir. It took me two hours to ride to the top, and a ˝ hour to return….nice place to eat lunch.

You are an inspiration. I have to increase my exercise. I recently almost ran over a 5' diamond back rattler coiled to strike while riding in the woods. So worried about my lil buddy who goes with me!. He listen well and went into a stay.

Way cool, Mr. 27...Looks like you were not the only person playing in the snow that day. What a beautiful location…where did you take that pic?
Yesterday, I rode to Costco, then I made my way over to the Sacramento river trail & had lunch at the Sundial bridge. Today it's raining, so I’m glad that I got two rides on Monday & Tuesday. One of these days I need to work on my trailer....

Hey rex
See any green and gold from up there?
Its been warm(35 ) today with plenty of snow. I wish I could ride my bike out of it.
I think we both need another trailer project to work on. I have nothing left to fix and cannot polish Cu's it freezes on the trailer.
Thinking of heading south next month-destination unknown.
Enjoy the game.

Hey Tim...I do need to finish the bathroom & build a bathroom door, plus replace the flooring that's coming apart. As you may know..." The hardest part of any job, is starting..."

How about that upcoming game...49ers vs Green Bay. Should be a good match! Aaron was interviewed the other day...he said that all his home town buddy's from Chico, are coming to the game in SF. Many of them wanting tickets!

Hey Marc…the weather in Redding is clear but cold, in the mid 20’s at night, and mid 40’s during the day. But I still went on a great bike ride with my buddy Bob, yesterday. We went on a loop ride on the Westside trail system. Like my ride to Chamise Peak, the Westside ride was all up-hill for the first half & and all fun and downhill on the second half. The last uphill pull ends at the Mary Lake trailhead.
After the ride, The Bunny and I went to the Merle Haggard concert at the Cascade Theater…It was nice to see that Merle was on time and not drunk. He said that he loves playing in Redding because it’s close to his home in Bella Vista, (15 minutes east of Redding). He donated all proceeds to Jefferson Public Radio…who owns the Cascade theater, built in 1936.

Anyway, like I have said before, please contact me next time you're in the Redding area. And checkout the RV park off of Park Marina Drive, just minutes from the Sacarmento River Trail. Maybe we can go for a bike ride & BBQ along the river afterwards....
Pics of Mary Lake trailhead, Mary Lake, and Bob.

I love going to events at the Cascade Theater, because it is a prominent example of the Art Deco style from the 1930’s. It was the first air conditioned public building in Redding, so one could see why it was a very popular place to go in the summer in its early years, and it was one of only a few theaters built during the great Depression in California.
The theater closed in 1997, but the house was restored to its original configuration, by Jefferson Public Radio, and now it’s used as an art center & music venue. The Cascade Theater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 17, 2002.
So, if you’re looking for a place to camp, and enjoy some live music, you may want to check out the Park Marina RV, along the Sacramento River. It’s only minutes away from the Cascade Theater…and yes one could ride their bicycle to an event!! Three-in-one fun….stay thirsty my friends.

The Bunny and I just get back from Feather Falls KOA & Casino, (Sunday). We had a great time with our friends Indian Mike and Cris. Also my sister Patti-Jo came down from Redding and stayed in the Casino Hotel. I can't post pics...because I need to pay my yearly.

Yesterday, my bike broke on the Hornbeck trail above Keswick Dam...7 miles deep! Rear grear cable broke, so I had a long ride in 2-1, and 1-1...good thing if was mostly downhill back to Lake Redding/Elks parking lot

The Bunny and I went camping last week for 9 days at the Elks Lodge. I had to set-up early because it is Kool April Nites car week in Redding.

I pulled our Airstream to the Elks RV in Lake Redding Park. In the afternoon, I went on a bike ride to the Show & Shine car show at the Shasta Dam visitor center. The local Lyons Club hosted the event, and offered a BBQ lunch for 5 bucks.

There were many beautiful restored cars to see, and old friends to visit with. I hadn’t been inside the Visitor’s Center in 8 or 9 years…so I snapped some pictures of the interior.

I left the car show, and returned to Redding on the Upper Sacramento-Hornbeck-FB trails…it was approximately a three hour ride back to my Airstream. Our plan is to leave our Airstream in place thru Sunday, and spend the weekend riding our bikes & enjoying Kool April Nites car show at the Convention Center…best to go by bike to avoid traffic and a parking nightmare.

With our Airstream in place at the Elks lodge, The Bunny and I had a wonderful weekend of camping, biking, and Botchy Ball.
On Friday in the AM, I took Scott on the “Best Bang, For Your Buck Ride”. Starting at the Elks parking lot and riding to the Hornbeck Trailhead. From there we looped north to the Walker Mine trailhead, and then up the road to the Lower Sacramento trail which takes you back to the Hornbeck, then back down the Hornbeck trail to the FB short cut trail. From there, we rode the 8 miles south to the Ribbon Bridge. We got a total of three hours of dirt trail riding in Friday morning!

Scott had never been in the area before, and he was on a new bike, a Giant Trance. He loved the ride, and said he was going to take his wife, and oldest son back, but shorten the ride by an hour, or drive to the Hornbeck trailhead instead riding that ˝ hour of uphill.

The next day The Bunny and I rode the paved Sacramento trail and did some shopping on Hilltop. They wanted $8 dollars per person to get into Kool April Nites car show, so we decided to go on Sunday for free. In the PM we played Botchy Ball at the Elks. I had never played before…it is a great game, and a good way to win free drinks from your friends.

The Sacramento trail had heavier traffic, than normal…lots of families walking to the car show, and missing the traffic jam on Hwy 44.
Overall it was beautiful weather, with people in Drift Boats, incredible cars, tons of people using the trail system, and the turtles sunning themselves on their favorite log…fun, fun, fun!

Today I went on a bike ride... on my way back I stopped at Shasta Lake RV repair to see what happened to the 1966 Caravel Airstream that used to sit outside his shop...

To my surprise, he had moved it inside the shop and was in the process of replacing the plywood flood. He also said that he is doing a remodel, not a restore. I asked he to call me if he needs help installing the new plywood.
