Thanks Jim… I’ll leave Rita’s light on for you, if you would like to stay in Shasta Lake City sometime. I don’t think that The Bunny and I are cool; I think it’s where we live. I love showcasing Northern California, and what it has to offer the average traveler, camper, and bike rider.
For the first time this year, Redding California was named, one of the “Top Ten Mountain Towns in America” on MSN, (# 10). So, I like to share why we made that list…bikes trails, alpine lakes/water sports, Mount Shasta and its winter sports & summer camping/hiking locations, historical mining towns, and our many rivers…the Klamath, the Sacramento, and the Trinity river, just to name a few.
We also host the two largest Wildernesses in California…The Trinity Alps, and the Marble Mountains Wilderness. It is a very cool place to live if you own an Airstream, bicycles, Harley, or Kayaks/boat.
So, please Airstreamers…come to Northern California and enjoy what we have to offer...if you have any questions about dry camping or RV parks in the north state, please feel free to send me a PM.

The Bunny and I just got back from Feather Falls Casino & RV… We had a great time! We had Thanksgivings dinner at the “All You Can Eat” Buffet at the Casino…it was like hitting the easy button at Staples, no dishes or clean up!
On Friday, we went on a bike ride along the Feather River. It was beautiful weather and a great trail system, but some of the trail was flooded by high water from the river. Which, The Bunny didn't like, but I loved riding thru the flooded areas. Must be the "Kid" in me....

We stayed in site #15, which I like, because it’s next to the showers, dog walk area, and the trail to the casino. I had to use a 2x6 board to lift one side of Rita, because the concrete slab is starting to break & sink…
Also, more pics of the Feather River trail, and Park.

On Saturday, The Bunny and I drove the 30 miles from Feather Falls RV to the city of Chico, to ride some of the bike trails, look at the RV Park at the Elks lodge, check out Bidwell Manson, and have lunch somewhere in the downtown area.
Chico is known for its College party lifestyle, Sierra Nevada beer, and the third largest city park in the United States. We didn’t get invited to any Frat party, but we did enjoy some of the bike trails around town & Bidwell Park, checked out Bidwell Manson, and stopped to drink a beer at Sierra Nevada Brewery…we also spotted old Saint Nick offering rides in his Pedi cab. PS, all photos are from The Bunny's smart phone... I forgot my camera.

The Bunny sent me two more pics of our trip to Feather Falls and Chico...The first was taken along big Chico creek in Bidwell Park, at the local swimming hole, and the 2nd was taken at the Sierra Nevada Brewery.

We stopped by the Chico Elks three hours before they start serving drinks at the bar, so we didn't get the Bloody Mary's we were hoping for. But their RV Park is very nice, and only two city blocks from the east end of Bidwell Park...a three mile bike ride thru the park to have lunch in old down town, and the Farmer's Maket on Saturdays. I want to camp there as soon as my new 29er Mt. bike is shipped to me!

Today it’s raining here in Shasta Lake City, and it looks like it may snow tonight. But yesterday was one of those days, that a Mountain bike rider dreams of… getting out and riding a mostly downhill single track dirt trail along the Upper Sacramento Ditch Trail, and coming out on the Sacramento River trail three miles upriver from the Redding Elks lodge…
My old work mate Bob, and I started at the Three Shasta’s overlook, two miles above Shasta Dam. The total vertical drop from that location is 700 feet along the 24 mile bike trail. The entire course has a difficulty rating of “Easy to Moderate”, but I should add that you should have a good solid Mtn. Bike with disk brakes, and front suspension. Bob stated that he wouldn’t ride the course without his full suspension bike, with disk brakes.
The two closest camping areas are the ORV BLM campground right at the upriver trail head of the Sacramento Rail trail, and the Redding Elks RV parking at the Lodge, which is a great place to finish a 4 hour Mountain bike ride.
Photo of the Three Shasta's...our starting point, and the Steel Ribbon Bridge where we came out onto the paved Sacramento River Trail, three miles upriver from the Elks RV Park...and beer time!

More photos of the bike ride...the trail system is well marked, but one should pickup a trail map at the information center at Shasta Dam or Turtle Bay Information Center.

Some parts of the trail are old water ditches, and others are old narrow gage railroad lines. Both systems were used during the gold mining days in the 1850's.

Always enjoy reading your comments, informative and interesting. Outstanding pictures. You live in a beautiful area. We were on the coast this summer...always enjoyable. Hope you and the Bunny have a great new year's party planned. We're going to be at the can opener in Destin,Fl. with about 80 other Airstreamers.

The photos of the three Shasta's & the Ribbon bridge were copied off the internet, because once again I forgot my camera, the pics of the trail system where taken by my buddy Bob. But I'm glad that you enjoy my stories of life in Northern California, it is truly a beautiful place to live.

The Bunny and I are going to some friends house for New Years, but today, the Bunny called and made reservations for Feather Falls Casino & KOA RV park for Super bowl weekend, so that will be fun...I'll make sure that I pull the Bunny out of the casino and go on a bike ride somewhere in Butte county, maybe upper Bidwell park!

Pic taken from the upper sacramento trail looking north toward Shasta dam.

Wow, you are a lucky man to live in such beautiful part of the country and mountain biking is a great way to enjoy it and get some exercise as well.

Thanks Mike.... I just got a new 29er mountain bike, by selling two of my old bikes. A Yuba Mundo cargo bike & a Walmart hybird schwinn 700cc. I decided to go with a Diamondback Overdrive hardtail...for $399. you get 21 speeds & disk brakes.

I can ride from my house and enter the single tack system on Walker Mine road, Flanagan road, and Shasta Dam...from the Dam you can cross to the westside and ride the paved rail trail to Redding, or stay on the eastside and ride the single track back to Walker Mine, Flanagon, or all the way to downtown Redding.

The City of Redding has a 10 year bike plan in place, and hopefully they will have the money to finish some of the planned connecter trails, which will add 100's of miles of bike/walking trails within shasta county...this would include the trail systems on the eastside, and the trail system on southwest end which would connect to the trail system within Whiskeytown National Park. Hopefully, my body will hold up long enough to ride them someday.

There is another RV park on Park Marina Driver, less than 2 miles from the Sundial Bridge. I think this would be a good location for someone who is not an Elks member, but would like to enjoy the river trail system. I'll check to ensure its not a "full timers" park....its right on the river,so it may be full.

PS... I see you own a bike shop, send me a PM with your web site, if you have one.

Pic of the Sundial Bridge...and yes I took this picture!

Merry Christmas to you and the Bunny too, Rex. Yes it is a T-shirt from Pacsun.
For Christmas eve we are having pasticcio (lasagna al forno). Christmas day we are having fondu bourguignonne.
No Texas turkey this year.

Rex,
Hope you and the Bunny have a great Christmas. We are down in San Diego at the Chula Vista RV Resort (no snow here). Got here this afternoon and went to the office to check in. The receptionist looked a little puzzled so I gave her a copy of the confirmation they emailed to me. She looked at it, then looked back at me, pointed at the arrival date.... In my rush to get out of LA to go camping we arrived a day early... Oops

Fortunately the spot we had wasn't booked today so every thing worked out okay. Guess we got an early Christmas present. The site is nice with a view of Coronado Bay, but the sites are close together. There is another Airstream here, but no one was there when we walked by with the dog. Since we will be here for a week, I am sure we will meet them before we go. Haven't seen any other Airstreams here, but haven't walked the whole park yet. Hope you guys stay safe and warm, the weather reports here say you folks up north are in for more rain and snow.

Happy Holidays,

We rode the Sundial bridge and the trail this summer. What a great trail!! And that's coming from someone who lives in Seattle, really a great hotbed of biking.

Merry Xmas to you Trex!

And a Merry Xmas to you and Becky...it has been raining off and on all day here...the good thing is, Interstate 5 north reopened today, & Mt. Shata Ski area is now open for the season. Have a Blessed New Year my friend.
