Dometic was the RV refrigerator of choice when our Vintage Airstreams were manufactured. Today, Dometic offers a variety of options in their new refrigerators, but you will likely find that any of the new refrigerators will be either slightly smaller or slightly larger than your coach's original. Some cabinet modification will almost certainly be required. You can find the Dimensions of the current Dometic offerings at this link
You will also find that you have the option of LP Gas/120-volt AC fueled boxes as well as LP Gas/120-volt AC/12-Volt DC fueled boxes. Only the first option was available when your 1972 was new, but it does not mean that the second choice could not be retrofitted as I had this done in my '64 Overlander. The 3-way refrigerator (LP Gas/120-volt AC/12-Volt DC) gives the option of traveling with the LP valves in the off position . . . something that is a very important safety consideration for me (be forewarned that opinions vary greatly on this issue). My first new RV (a 1980 Nomad 1720 travel trailer) had a 3-way refrigerator, and I have traveled happily and confidently ever since with 3-way refrigerators (the 12-volt DC maintains cool but does not work for cooling a warm refrigerator). My Minuet will receive a 3-way RV refrigerator when its original Dometic ceases operation.
Good luck with your research and investigation!
P.S.: Norcold also offers a number of possibilities including 12-volt-DC compressor type RV refrigerators . . . see this link
