<Insert name here> - The Good

Hello all;

We don't have a name for her yet but wanted to introduce our Airstream a 31 foot 1972 Sovereign! My husband and I have been looking for awhile and the whole family is very excited.
The previous owner had owned the unit for the past 20 years and some updates of the systems were performed. The unit had a rear end sag repair and it seems solid, although we're really not sure how to assess the quality of the repair. We plan to send a series of posts with pics of our new Airstream starting with this one which will chronicle the good. The bad and the ugly will follow in future posts.

I've attached several pictures of her nice and shiny exterior and intact awnings. And the top with it's AC, antenna, vents and solar panels. If we've used the battery to run various things, the panels will have the battery re-charged when we go to use it again.

The interior is in quite good shape as well with all major systems working. The interior pics were taken after cleaning the walls with a commercial product and the curtains were removed for cleaning. It was verrrrrry dirty.
The original oven location is now filled with a spice rack and microwave and the oven is under the stove. All overhead cabinets are original along with their tambour doors. Counter and cabinets have been replaced.
Fridge was replaced as well and works when using propane and electricity.
Twin bed configuration covered with pots and pans left by PO. Door opening looks a little wonky in the pic but I don’t think there's an actual problem. Will check tonight. Finally the bath which is all in working order except that lower tambour door which won’t close.

Well, that's the good. This is what we saw when we bought the unit and comparison of this Airstream to others we've seen made us jump to purchase. Hope to get other posts up soon.

Lori and Christopher

One of the very best looking old trailers that I've seen.

Hey, thanks for the photos, Lori and Christopher! Your trailer looks great!

Do you have a tow vehicle yet?

Nope, no tow vehicle yet. Christopher wants something big, possibly a Ford, with a crew cab for the kids and dog and a full-size box.

Your '72 Sov has a "dry" weight (nothing in it, no water, AC, etc) of only 4,960 lbs, so it's hard to imagine it at more than ~7,000 lbs fully loaded.

Yes, we pull our '74 Sov (Henri) with a Ford. It's a 2007 Ford Freestar with a 4.2L V6 engine. Put 6,500km on in when we went to Florida and back, and it pulled it beautifully.

It's good to know we're on the right track for the tow vehicle Aage.

The critical part of hitching is the set-up. There is an AS dealer in London that did ours, and we were very happy.

It's simpler if you wind up with a pickup, since they often have a solid hitch receiver built in. Not so with our Freestar, it took a lot of custom work.

The London dealer is CanAm RV. We'll be getting our Honda Odyssey set up for towing by these guys.

Congratulations on the trailer, it looks in great condition. We've just put a deposit on a 1979 Sovereign, seeing it tomorrow.
