Leaky Waste Valves

My 1981 Excella (side bath) has leaky waste valves. I'm looking to purchase this seal kit, but I see the warning that it may not work for some models with a stainless steel top plate.

My trailer is stored about 85 miles away from me at the moment, so I can't just go out there and look. Does anyone know if this kit will work for me or not?

Leaky waste water dump valves is a common problem on vintage Airstreams. I recommend replacing the valves with Valterra valves instead. It is nearly the same work. I paid about $20 each for the valves and fittings, not that much more than the seal kit.

Airstream spent hours and hours making servicing these valves as difficult as possible during the mid 80s. So it is a major project to get the valves replaced. However, it is just work, nothing complicated.

Here are a couple of photos of the tank pan I had to remove to gain access to the valves, the new "drain manifold" with new black Valterra valves I replicated from the old Airstream one. This was done 4 years ago and I have had no trouble with them since (knock on wood).

Some folks carefully cut an access hatch in the tank pan to save removing it, and to provide access to the valves for future repairs. This is what Airstream should have done in the first place in my view.

I hope this gives you a little perspective of the job at had to get valve to stop leaking.

No way would I fool with a seal kit....I replaced mine last summer. I bought new Thetford valves, adapters, and pipe for $167. I cut an access hole and made a cover out of an old street sign.
