I am going to look at a very clean 83 Excella 25 this week. I have a 3/4 ton ford diesel 4wd to tow with. What is the weight? I would like to know what I should be looking at to determine it's worth. Also, how will it tow. We will use it in the winter to travel south from Minnesota. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also what would be a fair price if it's clean?

The weight chart does not show a 25' 83, but based on other trailers of that year, I would guess a weight of around 4500 lbs. Your 3/4 ton will not have any problems with this size trailer.

The price vs condition guide only goes through the 70's, but it is still good reading. Prices can be all over the place.

I have another BIG question. The Excella I am going to look at is an 83. The seller says it's a 25'. I can't find any Excellas around that vintage that are listed as 25'. Could it be possible that it's a 27 and he guessed by measuring the body only? Pleeeze help!!!

I finally got a reply from the owner and it is indeed a 27. It looks very clean from the pix. New propane tanks and all. Asking $6995.00 Is this a fair deal?

Make sure you look at the floor where it meets the seams at the front and at the back. I just bought an '86 that the floor was hidden by the couch and under beds and it was totally rotten in the front and back where the seam met the floor. I paid $10,000 for a '31, but have had to replace every bit of caulk, the flooring, & had the couch recovered due to mildew & rot. I know I jumped the gun on my deal! The price sounds good if everything is in good repair and there aren't leaks all over!

I looked at a 73 a few weeks ago. It had water staining around the edges where the sides meet the floor and rotted carpet in that area. If I don't see any evidence on the surface, should I bring my ice pick to probe the floor in that area? Or what do you suggest to check it out?

You should bring an ice pick & a flashlight. If you can get to the areas along the walls, by where the seams come down (usually along the sides of the couch & if it's twins in the middle, it's in the storage lockers) to the floor, give it a poke. I stupidly didn't take one with me. I couldn't see under the one bed & knew there was some rotting in the storage locker. I clearly didn't check the floor next to the couch, because my previous trailer didn't have any moisture there & I didn't think the seams would leak that much. I didn't see evidence of moisture until I got it home (200 miles away) and started cleaning it up. Under the carpet on both sides of the couch was rotted floor that I could stick my entire hand down! Same with the rear beds. I did have a flashlight, but couldn't get under the bed far enough to see the rot. The good news is that it's all sealed up as of yesterday (we had a great rain last night) and the new carpet will go in shortly. Things can be fixed if you miss them when purchasing a trailer, but just take your time when going through it. I usually chomp at the bit, and that one bit me back!

An 83, while newer, still needs to be checked for the usual issues, floor rot, appliances, axles, tires, plumbing, etc. It's still nearly 25 years old, and a lot could have happened in that time. Don't skip items because it's "new".

Hi Terry, welcome-nice find!
We paid a little more for our 1989 25'. It is in very good shape structuraly; no rot, no dents, everything in place. It is a little bald on top, but there have been no leaks at all, tires were brand new, axles are fine, brakes, bearings etc all good.
I did replace the solenoid in the water heater, and just recently put in a new fridge (ouch!). But everything has been fine. You can probably expect about the same on the appliances. Make sure you check for rot and the leaks that would cause them. Other than that I would say congrats!

Well, the guy flaked out on me a third time. Sounds like a honey don't want to sell issue as he keeps vassalating. I'm not into a 250 mile drive to have him not be willing to sell it. Seems if it was a good deal, he would have sold it 10 times over. STILL LOOKING!!!
