Cool taken the plunge | 1968 Ambassador

Hi everyone, my wife and I just ponied up the cash for a '68 ambassador this morning. Not sure what we are doing, but were really excited to start this project. The '68 we bought is already gutted, which is exactly how we wanted it. We are giving ourselves 6 years to get it ready for our grand adventure. Our hope is to make it the most luxurious trailer on the road. A complete re-design with all the bells and whistles.

I will be using this forum a lot I am sure.

OK, this gets a little confusing. It turns out the guy selling it was confused. He told me it was 28', and I assumed it was an ambassador. Even though the body is 28', the sign on the side says "sovereign", and the title says 30'. Anyway, none the less, it seems I do not have an ambassador but rather a sovereign.

I guess my question is "did airstream include the tongue in the 30'?"

Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, Airstream measures their trailers from the center of the hitch ball holder to the rear bumper.

Wow, even more room than we though at first!

Congratulations, and I agree with those who said you won't want to wait six years. See you down the road.

Checking Out of the Rat Race

Hi fellow Airstreamers! We just purchased step 1 in my retirement plan, it is a 68 Ambassador 28', I think It has to have just about a complete new interior, outside is pretty good. My problem is none of the 68's I have look at on the internet look like mine. I have taken some pictures but not sure how to attach to this. I think ours is really a 65 or 66 and who ever had it before the people we bought it from had it set up as some type of a commercial deal. Huge stainless steel counter with sink and metal drawers, a full size bath tub and all walls were redone in sometype of tan metal. Weird. Title says 68 and 31'. I know the 31' is wrong because inside measures right at 25', that would make it a 28' right? She is getting everything pulled out this weekend, so we can see what we have to work with. Good thing we have 2 years to get her ready to become our "retirement home" full time.

welcome Vicki,

You find this forum invalueable to your remodel. A suggestion. Go back to the home page and find member introduction, start a new thread and tell everyone about your airstream. You will get more responses there.

To add a picture, after you finish writing a post, scroll down the page and click on to manage attachments, then click browse, select you pictures from your computer, then click upload, after pictures are uploaded, click submit post.

We all love pictures here!

You are a lucky man to have the Sovereign. They are great trailers.
