Window gone - what happened?

Started on a trip this weekend with no apparent problems. Stopped at about 150 miles for coffee. All was well on my walk around. Arrived at campground 30 miles later to find a few problems. The street side flip out window was gone! All that remained were the brackets and a handfull of tiny glass particles. Went inside to asses the damage. Glad to see no glass inside but surprised to see water all over the floor. The faucet on the gally sink was up, the cutting board was covering the sink, and water was everywhere!
Did a gremlin shatter my window, jump inside, turn on the faucet, and run away laughing?
Or did I forget to lock the window, a gust of wind flipped it up and ripped it off the hinges and some strange air pressure situation turned on my faucet?
I hope no one behind me was hurt.
A quick stop at home depot for some plywood kept the trip alive. It is hard to maintain the sophisticated Airstream image with all that duct tape.
Any thoughts on how to prevent a repeat performance?

We always make sure all windows are locked and the water pump turned off when traveling... and the lobster sink cutting board is placed on the bed!

Tempered Glass

The tempered glass windows on your late model Airstream shatter into a million small shards when hit by a rock, (or a BB from a BB-gun, or a pellet from a pellet-gun, or...)

You left the cutting board in the sink (a no-no)
You left the water pump on ( another no-no)

You hit a bump, the cutting board bounced up and hit the faucet lever.

I doubt if the broken window and running faucet were connected, unless you hit a pothole with such force you torqued the shell enough to shatter the window.

Checklists

You are most welcome.
This is why most of us have a pre-departure checklist:
Furnace off
Water heater off
Water pump off
Refer on propane
TV antennae down
Cutting boards stowed
Shower door latched
Pocket doors latched
and so on...

Except when we don't. Have been guilty of forgetting all of those things plus locking the door.....there are lots of things to remember to do.....at least your windows are easily replaced......enjoy your rig. paula

We all mess 'em up.

If it makes you feel any better, I was at a big WB rally once, talking with a veteran streamer of many years. I was commenting to him how hard I was trying not to mess up my beloved trailer. He said not to worry about it, "we all mess 'em up ".

Name something stupid and I've probably done it--cranking up the trailer tongue with the rear stabilizers in place; not properly locking the trailer door and a passerby honking at me and telling me the door was open; Wheel lock (the one that goes in between the wheels) in place and forgetting it was there and wondering why the trailer won't move as I step on the gas- just to name a few minor ones.

We had the window directly behind the driver crack into a million pieces just driving down a rural highway one day.

A large truck had passed us, don't know why or how but the force shattered the window. We duct-taped it together til we could get home.

Possible that something took out the glass and the force pulled open your window, same force pulling up your faucet handle up.

They Don't Always Stay on the Sink

In two different, after-purchase, walk-through inspections, the dealer reps advised us to stow the cutting boards under a seat cushion.

At times we have ignored this advice.

One time, one shook loose and fell on the floor gouging my new vinyl floor and chipping the laminate on the cutting board.

Another time, and a different Airstream, one was on the floor after a day of travel without damage.

This thread seems to verify that a big enough bump will bounce the cutting board high enough to turn on the kitchen faucet.

For comparison, you wouldn't leave one on the counter top.

They are only recessed 3/4 inch when in the sink. It doesn't take much of a bump to dislodge one or both.

I am very glad you brought this up before I suffer any damage - this is a new one for me and very welcome bit of advice!

Never moved a bit!

Although....I could see this being more an issue for light single axle ASes.

Maybe that's it - I've left mine in the sink for years in the B190 and the trailer and never saw them move... even when we were in an accident with the B190, that cutting board stayed in place (nothing else did - the medicine cabinet's contents were spread throughout the camper, for example).

both sound pretty unlucky to me. did you notice any very large bumps? have left windows open a couple of times with no damage. do not have cutting boards, but leave lots of stuff in the sink.
