how often could this happen?
The other day I was working on the 76 Caravanner when I needed a tool box from inside the 74 Ambassador. I grabbed the key ring and unlocked the 74 to get the tool box. Later when I finished working on the Caravanner I closed the door and began to lock it however the keys were nowhere to be found. After several minutes of searching and a few choice words I concluded that the keys would show up somewhere eventually. THEY DID! I put the tools back in the 74 and shut the door and there were the keys (76) still in the door! Needless to say I felt silly. After some expirementation I find I can use either of the keys in either door. When holding the keys together they are similar but not exactly alike but both keys will unlock both doors.

With off the shelf lock sets there are only so many key combinations. Had to happen sometime to someone.

The key to our '74 will fit about a third of the Airstreams that come into the shop.

The key to my uncle's 5th wheel sob fits my 67 Safari perfectly. I hear there are only 5 different keys for all trailers.

This doesn't happen with regularity but it isn't unheard of. I remember having a Ford key that fit my truck and car. Both were from the 70's era which were pre-chip keys. The truck key fit the car ignition, but the car key would not fit the truck.
The lock on our 76 is so worn I could probably open it with a key blank.

The ignition on my truck is so worn out that just about any key will start it.

This reminds me, when I was a kid I used to lock and unlock my Dad's 67 Nova with small twigs from the yard.

We replaced the lock on our back door (under-bed storage) and noticed that the key is identical. Didn't even need to replace the one on our rings. I have no idea if they're all the same or if there's only a few combinations.
