Door Lock Repair 1972

Is anyone aware of a facility that can repair or sells parts for the door lock on a 1972 Airstream? After 50 years of use, some of the parts need to be replaced. Thanks for your ideas.

Try Montanablue here on the Forums. Rick is the go to guy for vintage door hardware.

Vintage Trailer Supply has a surprisingly large array of parts for the KT latches:

https://www.vintagetrailersupply.com...page?q=KT+lock

You might also try outofdoorsmart.com or inlandrv.com

good luck!

I removed the old KT lock on my 75 Overlander and replaced it with a standard RV lever lock from Korhee. It is very robust, has been made for years, is at a reasonable cost. It has a built in deadbolt which is a plus. And it has an inside door pull. The KT lock didn't have this and we would pull the door shut with the opening lever. I think that is one design defect of the KT lock. Korhee sells it in chrome which works for an Airstream seems to me. The cost was less than $60. It just takes some time to install the thing, and it isn't original. So far, so good.

I agree montanablue is the Forums Airstream lock guy.

Ditto for VTS. You'll need to get the door handle/lock type & model number, and what part(s) is/are broken - then check on their website.

Our Bargman on our 1960 Avion T20 had a broken slide, which part I was able to get from VTS, pulled the lock off, replaced the slide & reinstalled within an hour.

I added another 45 mins to repeat the process when I installed the lock tumbler in reverse - so keep track of it on yours to save the second round!

They're not hard to DIY if you can get the needed parts, & keep track of their orientations during disassembly.

Good Luck!
Tom
