2003 ccd door gasket replement?

Hi.

I need to replace the door seal/gasket on my 03 Bambi Ccd. A couple of ???ís.

Who sells this? Airstream? Other? It is D shape as sern in attached photo.

I think there is some sort of 3M adhesive that is applied to both the door and the seal, let sit for a bit, apply gasket. Like contact cement. Is this correct? No clamping?

Iíve also read that you apply the 3M adhesive right over the paper backing on the new seal. Is that correct?

Any other advice?

Thank you very much!
Jonathan

Hi Lev,
Airstream buys most stuff from other manufacturers. Go to any auto parts store and ask if they have it. 2nd choice, check Amazon. Most advertisers have pretty detailed pictures and dimensions for door seals. It might run 50 cents a.foot. not too expensive. BTW it works well as a plywood edging around the bed platform... only need to get one big splinter in the butt to want that. A mat to stop the mattress from sliding around too.

Thank you both!

I may have to snip a piece of the old seal to be able to compare with new. Iíll bet that there is half a dozen size/thickness. Iíll head over to an Autozone or Pep Boys soon.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Still trying to find replacement. Airstream parts referred me to an Airstream dealer that said the gasket is $4.60 PER FOOT plus $24.00 shipping from AS.

Not gonna happen. I now have an inquiry into High Sky RV parts, but it looks like they sell the gasket in 50 foot lengths.

Sheesh! Maybe a trip to some Autozone. Any ideas?

Thanks GC!

One of those D ones should work. But which one

I just want to make sure that I can close the door when I get the seal installed. I've heard stories...

I researched for my slide compression seal. Found very promising item but havenít ordered.

Make your best guess, contact Trimlok and ask if theyíll send you a couple inches for a sample fit check. They did it for me.

Then compare and see about how or where to purchase.

They were very helpful for a retail inquiry.

Thanks.

Samples ordered. They also directed me to some installation videos. Sorta scientific.

And just an FYI, they only sell in 500 foot lengths and suggested Grainger's or some place like that.

They also offer two types of adhesive backings. I asked about using 3M adhesive instead of the self stick. It appears that their self stick is strong enough where the rubber seal would tear before the self stick tape would fail. I also learned that surface prep is
REALLY important.
