Winter Use and Outdoor Shower

Hey all!

We pick up our new 28 FC this Saturday, and we will be heading from the dealer for winter camping.

Can I get a picture of how folks added an onboard shutoff valve for the outdoor shower? As well as a tool and parts list? Also, what size waterlines?

I am thinking of splicing the valves into the Pex using Sharkbite fittings. Thanks for your intel folks!

3rd full-time winter here. Just unscrew the shower hose and put a piece of insulation cut to fit in the box. No freeze issues here going down to below zero F.

You could splice shut off valves inside if you can get to them, using shark bite fittings. 1/2 inch PEX. But to be effective you would need to drain the low points with those valves open to drain the shower valves, then close the new valves before pressurizing again by using water pump. But like I said, I have found that to be unnecessary.

I also replaced the stock shower valves and hose with this unit which has an easier quick disconnect than trying to get my fingers into the tight space outside to unscrew the hose. Also it’s a much better shower with multiple settings and longer hose. Fits right into the existing box, just remove stock valve assembly by accessing from the inside. Click image for larger version

I should add for accuracy—the new shower valve assembly fits just like the original in the existing box. However the shower wand and hose does not, and can’t be stored in the compartment. You need to remove via the quick disconnect and stow elsewhere. Just a clarification.

Perfect! I will do the same and then find that shower for later when we get into the warm weather camping again.

Thank you!

I also installed the Dura Faucet in my 23FB. It was a great upgrade and much more useful than the OE shower fixture.

I don’t know about the configuration of the OP’s trailer, but I can’t imagine trying to work on the plumbing behind outdoor shower fixture on the 23FB. The installation of the Dura Faucet required me to test my skills as a contortionist. I had a few cuts and bruises after that.

Lol. Mine is a 23d (corner bed). Access was in the bathroom sink cabinet up behind the sink. Wasn’t too bad.

Thank you!
I don’t know how cold you’ll be camping in but really unless you have access to one little scrap of insulation, I’d say just remove the hose and stuff a couple rags or packing foam in the compartment or a freezer bag stuffed with cotton. It will be fine.

Dura faucet here too.

I cover the faucet with those bag-type hose bib covers pressed flat.

As for the inside shut off...I, too, had to be a contortionist to install the Dura because the OEM casing wouldn't come free. All plumbing performed wrong-handed at the edge of my reach. If I ever do plumb a cut-off it will be installed well upstream of the Dura.

If you drain your water lines with the outside shower open, then shut he valves and resume using your water, it should maintain air in the lines going to the outside shower. I also pack the compatment with fiberglass insulation. However, I have also contemplated adding in-line shutoff valves as a saftery factor. --Frank

Exclamation Timely Info for a Florida deep freeze!

Hi,
We are in the Big Bend Area of Florida experiencing lows in the upper twenties for about 6 hours at night. Tomorrow we are moving to Top Sail and it is going to be colder! Was starting to be concerned about the outdoor shower when I found your posts about unscrewing the shower hose and putting in some insulation. For tonight I have rags and some reflex. I will add better insulation tomorrow. I didn't know the shower hose would unscrew!

Thanks for the tip!
