Water tank drain valve

Hello,

After a few trips up and down the Alcan Highway and around Alaska, we have had to replace the plastic drain valve to the water storage tank (twice). The gravel would simply break it off. Imagine our surprise when we would get to a rest area to have a cup of coffee or use the amenities and discover the well had run dry. The designers obviously didn't bear in mind these beauties would be pulled over anything other than hard surfaced roads. What I did to eliminate the problem was to cut a 4" piece of 1" aluminum angle and attach to the bottom of the trailer belly about and inch or so forward of the drain valve. To this I cut and bolted a 4"x3" piece of rubber mudflap. I've never had another problem with losing or damaging the valve. Just thought someone could use the tip.
