Water hose connector / Outside Airstream

I hooked up the water hose a couple days ago and noticed water coming out in drips out of the bottom of the trailer.I started to look for the leak and I found it.It was a cracked piece pf plastic where the water hose outside connects into the side of the trailer.I noticed that the piece was yellow on the inside of the trailer. It seems like a really easy job. Thanks everyone.

Here are a couple pics of the outside and then one the inside of the connector. The yellow piece it seems was the thing that was broken unless there is a seal to fix it.

When I took delivery of my then new '06 19CCD at Bates, the ONLY knowledgeable Airstream tech there told me to be wary of the inside city water inlet fitting, as they get brittle and crack.....causing the leaking between the skins that Devoman has exerienced. .

Fix

So is this an easy fix or do I need to order it from Airstream and replace the whole piece? Is there a better solution to the fix without using the old plastic piece that can break?I guess the only way to really find out is to just take it apart and check it out.Not a problem to though.Everything is basically at my fingertips luckily.

You can get that piece from any RV shop, or Camping World. It should come with the outer piece as well, unless I am seeing the wrong part.

Connector

I just got it in the mail today and thought I would post a few pictures of it.It seems that this water regulator is able to hold up to 125 lbs of pressure. Also I am posting a picture of the instructions with some intresting stuff on it.Thought you all would like to see this also in case something in the future happens like this to others.I will try and post up some pictures when I remove and install it.Right now it has been raining so maybe in a few days I will get a chance to do it.Thanks

Same thing again

Well it seems it has happened again.I will be trying to figure out a way to a better solution to stop this forever.now the leak is going inside the wall down to the floor and out the bottom.it is a slow and steady drip.the bad part is that I am still in FT. Wilderness so I can not get to I until this Monday.Sucks that I just Replaced it over a year ago.also that I have a feeling that woodrot is already a done deal in that corner.I just hope this never happens again.

Good Morning guys! A smart investment is to buy a a blow out plug and when you winterize... blow out the water in this little fitting. Its not the fittings fault! You all know how frozen water can cause damage. On my 325 I put in a valve with a drain lower than the inlet. It drains by itself when I open the valve and get it ready for winter. Jonathan

Hmmm. Makes you think twice about using the fresh water inlet in the winter. I suppose a guy could just fill the tank and call that good enough. Nuisance, though.

The next time you replace it read the instructions that come with the outlet. They are emphatic that the last 12" of tubing going to the inlet must be flexible - that under no circumstances should solid pipe of any kind be used as it will damage the outlet. I'll give you one guess what Airstream uses when they install these.

Inlet

Winterized? What's that!I am a Florida boy.never needed to winterized.this was going on for a while now but I found the problem so I am happy.it seems that when I even had the water pump on it would leek thru this area so when I turned it off it would go away.when the water is hooked up from outside it would leak as well.

There are no solid pipes in mine.I have a 2005 25'SS unless they went back old school again which I don't see happening in the near future.all pex tubing.easy stuff to fix.

Is there a company that anyone would know about that makes them better than these ones that are made of plastic.would be mice to use some with metal inner piece.

Braided line

I was not able to get a braided line in there(to small of an area to reach) so I will stick with what airstream does.that is about as soft a line I will use unless I rip out the whole area to get to it and to me this is not worth the trouble.

fix it with better parts...

devo

if i understand, it's the backside of this fitting that's failing?

that is the pressure regulator segment which appears to be plastic, nylon or poly?

there is a BRASS pressure regulator available, a/s uses it on the classic models.

so it's possible 2 piece 2gether a more reliable connection using a brass regulator & an outside connector (the face plate/turn knob/connector)

more effort on your part but this would be a ONE TIME fix.
___________

the other option is to fix it exactly as before with the oem parts...

THEN ADD ANOTHER pressure/restrictor (brass) to your HOSE before connecting.

the 2nd pressure valve would reduce stress on the plastic inner fitting.
___________

IF it's leaking now and u want to avoid MORE WATER IN THE WALL....

fill the fresh tank and run from it with the water pump and disconnect the fresh water port...

4-5 days of continuous water in the wall isn't a great idea.

cheers

Thanks

That's exactly what I need to get.I will look for that for sure.the brass fitting is well worth theoney and extra work than having that cheap plastic on it.
Oh...I sent you a P.M. 1Air.thanks

Airstream

Just called Airstream a while ago and it seems that all unit whether the base model to the most largest Airstream uses the standard shurflow city water connect. They told me that I could just purchase one without the regulator on it and then add one myself but I think I will just order the same OEM one that has always been used.I just had been the lucky one to get 2 that messed up.
For all I know I could have tightened it up just enough to put a small hairline crack in it and it finally popped.Who knows.I will have it fixed once it comes in the mail.

Hey Devoman, sorry you are having problems. I had the same thing happen with mine. When you get your new one in, you can test it before you install it. Just buy a threaded end cap, screw it on and hook up the water. If it is bad, it will leak. If no leak, install.
I did a thread on this back last July. If I knew how to insert the link, I would.
Hope all is well out your way. Looks like they'll be another invasion labor day!

Welcome to the club. We've replaced ours twice in just under three years. Our thinking is that the first one we installed was faulty. So far the second one is holding up. But at least now we know what to look for and have the gadgets to get the job done.
