In many third world countries, it is standard procedure to throw all toilet paper into a trash can they provide for the purpose. Evidently, their sewage systems can't handle it. Takes a little getting used to, and the thought of some maid seeing TP that I've used makes me feel a little embarrassed, but I'm sure they don't spend much time looking at it. I suppose it would be even more embarrassing if I were the one to forget and flush my TP, causing my toilet to back up. Maybe I could blame it on my wife?

Do the simple "shake test" on any TP you buy. TRIPLE PLY quilted Northern passed with flying colors (and is SO comfortable to use).

Only 2 of the new models have macerating toilets as I understand it.

I have a rotary tank rinser in my Bambi, and regular TP seems okay. After the dump, I close valve, rinse for a minute or two, then dump again. I have a short clear hose adapter so I can see when water is clean.

They use the bucket method because the plumbing uses 1.5 inch pipes with little to no building codes. Gloves easily. Much larger pipes are used in North America.

It you aren't far from a dump station, it helps to smack up a bag of ice cubes and dump them into the Black tank. Then any motion at all helps to shove the solids around, assuring a well-flushed tank. We do this only when we won't be using the trailer awhile, and want to leave it cleaner than normal.

I’d heard that before also - ice cubes and crushed ice in the water to help clean the tank. Then on a forum somewhere long ago... ran across this video trying that idea out - pretty entertaining....

I just use what we have at home...never had a problem; even without agitation from travel. Some of the issue is what you use for odour control. Some enzyme products also breakdown paper, and are advertised as such. I stopped using formaldehyde products several years ago. Trailer doesn't smell like toilet treatment anymore either.

As a point of information for anyone who may not be aware, formaldehyde waste tank treatment products are generally (perhaps even always) illegal to use anymore.

I use a sewer solution system--works like a macerater pump without the mechanical parts. Chunks of TP get shredded and go right out the hose with the water jet set to pump out.

Thought we were the only ones doing this.

Have been since the late '70s and quite satisfied with the process. So's our black water tanks.

Forum members obsess over tow vehicles and hitches, citing safety issues. OK, I get that. But I think the biggest obsession is the black tank. How to make it spotlessly clean only to use again in an hour; which toilet paper to use; which, if any, additive to use....

It's not rocket science- use it, dump it, repeat.

I have been thinking about this thread and you got it on the nose. Seriously folks, it's called a black tank for a reason.
As far as the # of plies, and how soon it breaks down. What kind do you use at home? Use it on the road, after all it's going to get dumped pretty quick unless you really like to hang on to the stuff.
We haven't had a problem in 20 years with stuck or blocked valves on the black tank. Probably because we use and dump when it's full.

In amongst all the chatter about which TP to use, let me throw my 2 cents worth in.
I'm using Costco's "Kirkland" brand; which seems to work just fine.
I tested it with the 'water/shake test, and it broke down within a couple of minutes, so I'm using it. No problems yet.

Charmin Ultra Soft two ply, just like we use at home. Seems to be cheap enough bought in bulk from Sam's Club or Costco, and it has passed the water/dissolve test with flying colors.

"RV Toilet Paper" seems to be a niche product, but unnecessary. Its pretty much available at any Walmart store if you want to use it, but as I recall, it does not dissolve as easy as Charmin Ultra Soft...and as pointed out, it's not that cheap.

I suppose I ought to try putting Charmin Ultra Soft through my Interstate's macerator pump and see if it jams up the works. But just in case it does clog up the pump, the black tank will be full of clean water, and the Charmin will be clean and unused…
