Installed accumulator / expansion tank

It started as simply wanting to secure some pipes so they would not rattle when the pump came on. But then I saw a mess of carelessly routed pex pipes with needless turns and overlaps so I decided to straighten out some pipes, relocate the pump, and add an accumulator tank to reduce pump cycling. I saw lots of good reviews for the 0.75 - 1 liter RV accumulator tanks but a common comment was they wished they were bigger. Well I found a 2 gallon expansion tank on sale at my local Menards and decided to see if I could make it fit. I used a copper dog-earred elbow screwed to the floor to screw the tank into and coverted to pex from there. Hardest part was crimping some of the pex fittings in the tight space. In the process I fixed a crushed heating duct and added a jog to the back wall of the storage under the fridge to gain some storage. The pump is much quieter now and once the system is up to pressure I can run a faucet for 30 seconds before the pump comes on!

Great idea! I put in a small accumulator tank this summer. It helped a lot with the noise, but still cycles frequently.

Note: if you get the SHURflo 4008-101-E65 3.0 Revolution Water Pump
and use 2' of flex pipe on both ports, no accumulator is needed

saves space and $$
