How to get hot water to shower

Can’t get hot water flowing to shower on 2018 Classic 30. Have hot & cold water to kitchen sink and bathroom sink. Only cold water to shower. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

All that I can think of that might cause that situation is a malfunctioning shower faucet.

Thanks Brian,

Maybe so. The single handle Koehler faucet sits at off in the 6 o’clock position. As one rotates it clockwise cold water comes on and then as one approaches the “H“ position at 12 o’clock water flow stops completely. I even had a mobile repairman out and he removed the Koehler hardware which revealed a little black adjustment knob behind the faucet handle. Even he was unable to solve it. Thank you so much for your reply. Anyone else encounter a similar problem?

I am assuming it has worked in the past and you haven’t just forgot to flip a valve somewhere after dewinterizing?

Since you have hot water at the kitchen and it’s further down the water chain it leads me to believe there is an issue with your mixing valve in your shower. Should be a drop in unit on the Koehler I believe. You may have to enlarge the hole to gain access to it as well?

Our shower handle stops at about the 11 position and that’s the hot hot point. Showers for us are usually at the 9 or 10 mark. If yours goes up to 12 and shuts off, definitely sounds like your valve in the handle.

Had same problem. It was the mixing valve. Kohler will replace for free if you have a couple of weeks to spare. Otherwise you can find the replacement at Home Depot or other plumbing supply. Simple procedure, google and you will find a video on repair.

Sistexman,
If your Classic has a tankless water heater, the heater may not be sensing enough water flow to turn on and heat the water (this happened to us). At the time, we would turn on the water pump when connected to shore water and the increased pressure/flow resulted in hot water at the shower. Our AS dealer replaced the inlet water pressure regulator and that fixed the problem.

There are also a number of recommendations regarding use of a tankless water heater that say to set the temperature at what you would like for a shower, then turn your on shower hot water full wide open - don’t cut in any cold water - in order for the water heater to have sufficient flow to turn on.
