Galley sink drain

Second time out with our 2012 25 ft FC. Washed dishes with about 3/4 full in the lobster bowl. When draining, the water came up in the shower. Grey tank valve is open-using Sewer Solution. Did not have this problem with our 20 ft. Safari. What gives?

Yep, that's how our 2008 27FB works. I set the stopper to drain slowly or rinse the shower quick after dishes.

Sounds like a venting problem. Make sure you can repeat the problem and get your dealer and/or airstream to fix it.

There was another thread dealing with this in detail, but I can't find it.

Vintage trailer supply has a plug that will stop water from backing into your tub. Doesn't answer the why but ?...

Shower Drain Plug

I found that one, but there was one started by a young couple with a brand new unit. It had pictures and links to sites with a vacuum break type p-trap that some had luck with,IIRC.

Common problem, kitchen sink and shower share same plumbing line. When draining a partially full sink, the drain line simply fills up and the excess comes up into the shower.(We also had 20' Safari before this 2012 25' Flying Cloud, great minds think alike.)

In ours we put the shower drain plug in tightly and that keeps it from sharing the shower floor in the sink draining process, easiest solution. I think the trailer front up or down from level attitude may make a difference, for example if you stopped for the night without disconnecting hitch on a slope.

Interesting side note, the bath sink does not drain into the gray tank, but into the black tank. I guessing that's because for most users, the gray tank fills up the fastest, but it may be that the black tank is closer.

First Trip & Grey Water Issue

We also have a round, lobster sink, which potentially holds a lot of water, and if the drain plug were suddenly pulled, I wouldn't be surprised to see some water coming out of the shower drain, as the gray water tank vents through the shower and through the vent in the plumbing just before the shower, as seen in my photo below. We use a smaller bowl in the sink when doing the dishes.

Everyone:
Thanks for the great replies. Good to know this is not just "our" issue. While not a complete solution, we certainly now have methods to deal with the problem. That is the beauty of the forum. Everyone helping others to gain understanding.

And Doug, you were our inspiration to make the switch and we have been very happy with our decision. We are enjoying a week in Fredericksburg, Va. until Oct. 20. Lots to do here and beautiful weather. Working out the kinks.
