Don't do what I did...

Went to replace the O rings and cartridge on my original Moen kitchen faucet. Part of the cartidge broke off inside and I've been told by various plumbers the faucet is now trash.

But here's the piece you should now (I learned this from Moen today) on my 78 Excella the Moen faucet and sink were sold as a set to Airstream and no faucet available today will fit the original sink. The hole for mounting the faucet in the sink flange is "D" shaped, not round like faucets available today. And even if it were round, the base on Moen faucets available today (where it mounts to the sink) are wider than they used to be, meaning it would hang over the edge of the sink.

So be carefull reparing your faucets.

I've done that before when I was too impatient to go get the regular cartridge removal tool and used Vice Grips. The worst was the time I did it on a shower in a duplex I own - it turned out to have no plumbing access (it does now!).

I have also gotten the cartridge out after doing that once or twice. I cannot remember how, just now. What about running a lag screw into the center to give something to pull on - its all brass anyway. There is little to lose at this point.

I just replaced the toy sink in my '85 Sovereign 25' with a stainless steel bowl and Moen faucet. It is so nice to have a sink that allows both hands to be in it at once.
