Cleaning Mixing Valve
I got AS in 2017. Twice now I’ve had to clean out the hot water mixing valve. Kind of a hassle. Cleaned filter screen and soaked valve in white vinegar. I did get a better filter and a water softner at the end of last season so hopefully that will help. Anyone have similar problems? Any different solutions? This may have to be a yearly exercise.

Regular occurrence for me, I clean the hot water heater, filter all incoming water. I now carry the tools right next to the hot water heater. No need to soak it, just clean the screen.

I got rid of that pesky mixing valve last week. Installed Atwood 91447 thermostat kit to bring water temperature down to 140 degrees. Removed mixing valve and all associated plumbing. Installed Camco 53953 bypass kit. A couple of 1/2 fittings to make the water lines fit. Done.

Interesting. Any directions you followed for this? Sounds like a solution. Any downsides from doing this? Less hot water for showering, etc?

I get 6 gal. of 140 degree hot water instead of 6 gal. of 155 degree water. I’m good with that.

Everything works as before. The thermostat kit replaces the XT thermostats. Without the mixing valve, the water temp. would be too hot. I've basically turned my XT water heater into a non XT.

I did that on our prior trailer never looked back.
If you have a picture I'm curious about the layout.

If you live or camp in places lots of limestone and thus lots of hard water, consider addition of a brass coupler between the tank and valve, then you can disconnect at the coupler and clean it in place.

Not sure if this is the proper place or time to ask. I have a 2003 22 CCD. Do I have a mixing valve somewhere ? Would someone be able to help me locate that. Thanks

You may not have a mixing valve unless the water heater has been replaced. Your year was right around when they started using them more commonly. If you have one, it is screwed directly to the Hot water outlet of the water heater.
