Checking the System

This may already be out here, if so please direct me to the thread.

What are some simple procedures I can go through to see if the water system checks out? I am a little reluctant to try the water at all on my new 1968 trailer, but figure I better do it to find out what if any problems there are.

As you may know, there are 2 systems in your trailer.
A 12 volt pump operated system that pumps the water from your trailer's tank into your faucets/toilet/shower. This requires that you turn on the water pump switch, then try your faucets. It also requires a working battery.

There is also a system that uses water from a domestic supply such as your home water system. To access this, hook up a hose to the trailer at the rear bumper. turn the faucet on and check the trailer operation.
This may be info that you already know, if so I appologize. I don't know what your experience level is.
If you have more questions, ask away.

Thanks for the replies . . . guess I do already know those things . . . just reluctant to try things out in case there's a big problem! Shouldn't be such a wimp I suppose.

; )

The trailer has cleaned up nice but still needs much work too. Would love to just rehab old Airstreams.

When you check the water system, use a helper. Have the helper stand by the shutoff (spigot), and they can turn the water off immediately if you find a leak inside, minimizing any floods.

If you have access to an air-compressor, you might try that route. I would just hook it up to the city water intake side and, have someone listen for any sounds of hiss..You might feel better doing the walk around inside yourself.
By doing it this way, you would prevent any water damages if you have a broken line or leak in the system. Just a thought..

btw, those air-compressor adapters can be had from any WALLY's store for around a buck or so..

Stop

Make sure that the crossover valve is OFF (closed) before you turn on that connect to the city water. That valve controls water into the tank if you want to fill it from the city connection. If thats the choice, then make sure that the outside fill cap is off, or loose, to prevent air pressure build up in the tank. The crossover valve should remain in the OFF position whenever not filling with city water.
