Best black tank cleaner

Good afternoon all my fellow Airstreamers.
Can anyone recommend the best black tanker cleaner?
I use Happy Camper for my weekly after flush deodorizer but need to do a good spring clean CLEAN of my black tank!!
Any recommendations?

This is what I use. Of course there are lots of products on the market. I like this one and it helps with the sensors, I also use Happy Camper between treatments.

I use a cup of Tide laundry detergent and a gallon of water after dumping. Has always been good for me. No odours

A newer AS may not need it, but we did 10 yrs ago.
I did the GEO once, now its a 1/8 cup Dawn with Happy Camper after every dump & flush.
Even our sensors still work.👍

Happy Campers

Used only Happy Campers for 7 years now and never have done any DEEP DIVE cleaning, why? because its a enzyme cleaner and feeds on the poo bacteria, so the longer it stays in the tank the cleaner the tank gets.

We've been using 1/2 cup of Boraxo after ever dump. Every 4 or 5 dumps we add a 1/2 cup of dawn. We always put at least 10% water back in the tank. As black tank is always way behind the grey tank filling, we tend to dump dish water into the toilet. The fuller the tank the better it empties.

For a deep clean I use the whirlybird wand with a garden hose attached running they the camper. Camco has a clear flush valve that allows me to see when the flush water runs clear. It takes several fill ups and flushes for the clear water to appear. I perform this task when storing for a long time.

I agree with this and that the time for a deep clean is before storage, not after. After storage the tank needs use to soak/loosen anything that dried up during storage.

tanktechs Rx

Hi, we've been using tanktechs Rx since our airstream was new. Never a problem anywhere. Sensors are great. black and gray tanks get a capful on a complete empty. If you ever have a scent that comes up from the shower a splash in the drain will get rid of it. Can't recommend it enough.

I can’t find anything that says Happy Campers is an enzyme cleaner. Their website is vague, but says “Happy Camper works most like an enzyme or bioactive treatment but is not affected by residuals.” That to me says it is NOT an enzyme cleaner. It also says it works under high temperatures, which enzymes don’t - they break down at higher temperatures. Under their FAQ of “What is Happy Campers?”, it says it is made of “nine trace elements and two heavy elements”. It says nothing about enzymes. The antidote for ingesting it is a chelating agent, which would make sense for heavy metals.
The SDS for it says under EU law it has to be labeled “Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment” and “Do not empty into drains”. I noticed on their website they also will no longer ship it to California.
I don’t know what the stuff is, but I don’t think it is any sort of enzyme cleaner and don’t think it’s a probably a good thing to use when you’re dumping to municipal water systems that don’t remove heavy metals before discharging into lakes, rivers, or the ocean.

I’m surprised no one has brought this up since this subject has been covered many times on the forum. Airstream recommends simple fabric softener for cleaning the black tank - has been presented multiple times at the international rallies

Unique brand products have out performed the others.
Available at RV stores or online.

Cap full of Calgon and same cap of Dawn dish soap. If you have trouble finding Calgon, 20 Mule Team Borax also works well, just dissolve in water first, don't dump the power in dry.
