Bathroom faucet replacement
I am working on a 1964 Airstream Globe trotter 19'. I need to replace the faucets on the bath sink and bath tub. I am having trouble getting access to replace them. This set up is a rear bath with the sink over the tub on the door side of unit. I have taken the screws out of the top of sink counter but it is stll attached at the wall or something I can not find. Please help with any information on how to gain access.
Thank you for your help

if you can get your hands in under the sink you need a basin wrench to remove and install the faucet without removing the counter top. Worth the expense.

There is no access. This is the problem. I am in the RV service business and have changed many even on Airstreams. This particular Airstream has a unique counter with no access from the inside of unit or storage compartment in rear. No closets or cabinets to gain access. The only way I see is to split the counter top from the bottom fiberglass surround. I am having trouble accomplishing this.
Thanks

I found the hidden screws under the tub in rear compartment. The bottom skirt came right out and off to work I went.
Thanks

Just replaced the guts in my Delta faucet bath sink. It was easier than expected with parts from Home Depot.
Glad you found the hidden screws......I went through a similar problem trying to change out the microwave last year. Was almost ready to get the sawzaw and cut everything out till I found those tiny screws.

Does anyone have pictures of those hidden screws?
I’m in the same boat (1964 26’ Overlander) needing to repair or replace the bathroom sink faucet, and for the life of me, I cannot find those hidden screws. Any help? 🙏 Thanks!

You may find that less damage will be done, and the repair simplified by carefully cutting an opening in the side of the vanity to access the plumbing connections. Then neatly rivet a patch over the opening. This is exactly how the replacement of the Vanity Faucet Set was handled in my 1964 Overlander Land Yacht International when my Airstream dealer installed the new faucet over 24 years ago. You can see the neat patch riveted to the side of the vanity in the photo below:
I have owned my 1964 Overlander Land Yacht International for 30 years so have gotten very familiar with the trailer. In fact, I spent my first night in a travel trailer in this trailer when it was brand new and I was five years old when it belonged to friends of my family.
I might suggest that you consider joining the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI)/Airstream Club International (ACI) along with your nearest local Unit. Membership in the club is one of the best means that I know of to get the most use out of your Airstream, and you will find fantastic camaraderie among the club members. Each of the local Units has its own assortment of monthly camping activities during the camping season with social activities during the off season. As a member, you are welcome to attend the activities of other units as you travel about on a space available basis. In addition to the Unit activities, there are State Rallies, Regional Rallies, Special Event Rallies, and there is the annual International Rally that will be held in York, Pennsylvania this year at the end of August. You also have access to the Caravans led by Club Members who have received Caravan Leadership training at the International Rally, and these Caravans can be a wonderful way to tour as camping reservations are typically included as are many of the attraction fees, and often Caravan Leaders are able to arrange to see and do things that may not be available to the solo traveler. Then in addition, there are the Intra-Clubs, or clubs within the parent club, of which there are ten representing a number of interests. I belong to two of these Intra-Clubs, the Vintage Airstream Club, a club for owners and enthusiasts of Airstream Product RVs 25 years of age or older where information is freely shared regarding care and maintenance of these RVs that will help to keep them on the road for years to come. I also belong to the Pride Streamers, one of the newer Intra-Clubs for LGBTQ owners, their families and friends. With many of these Intra-Clubs, members often are offered parking with their Intra-Clubs at larger Rallies such as the International. I am sold on the organization so much so that I became a Lifetime member in 2005, but I joined initially shortly after I purchased my Airstream in 1995.
Good luck with your Overlander, and Safe Travels!!
Kevin

you know, I was able to find all the screws on the bottom of the sink surround from the back compartment, and although I wasn’t able to remove it completely, it was enough to find the busted hose and replace it -pics to follow. There is still a steady drip from the shower faucet, so now I’m trying to repair the faucet.

thanks, fellow ‘64 steamer! it was a good year in some ways, being the year I was born (although my best friend was born three days before me, and we were just remembering that our mothers both really took the killing of President Kennedy pretty hard -probably explains a lot of how we turned out
Anyhoo, Here’s the pic.
Now I want to fix the drip coming from the shower faucet. Does anybody know what kind of faucet they used on the 64? ☮️
Stay golden, pony boy

if I seem even more confused than usual, I’ve been trying to post from the road and without my reading glasses. Anyway, Kevin, thanks for the input on the.clubs -I will join up! It’s good to hear the support for the LGBTQI+ community, especially at this time.

There has been quite a change in the 30 years that I have been in the WBCCI/ACI. While I wasn't out until after my 50th birthday in 2010, I never really felt anything but welcome at any club function. Being a Junior-Senior High School Business Education and Computer Science Teacher for 28 years meant that I had to remain closeted to protect my career.
On the issue of the tub/shower faucet, it is a fairly standard fixture from the mid-1940s through the mid-1960s. There is a company that makes one very similar to the one that Airstream used, and I cannot be certain whether it may not be from the same manufacturer. I found it by searching for vintage plumbing supplies, tub and shower faucet -- and it popped up on several vendor's sites. If I remember, the faucet set was about $30.00 without the shower hose and head.
Good luck with your 1964 Overlander and Safe Travels!!
Kevin

I ran across the record of the faucet set that I had found for my 1964 Overlander. It isn't quite the same, as the one that I purchased close to 20 years ago, but very similar. It has held up very well over the years.
It is sold as a Clawfoot Bathtub Surface Mount Tub Fill with Shower Option on 4-Inch Centers
I notice that it appears that you may have the original Avocado Green bathroom fixtures. That is what my Overlander had from the factory, but mine had turned very blotchy in color with large spots where the color had yellowed very dramatically. I ended up having all of the Avocado Green professionally Refinished in Antique Pewter. I have never quite understood why, at least in my Overlander, the bathroom fixtures were Avocado Green while the kitchen sink, range top and front, as well as the refrigerator had desert tan for their colors as did the kitchen countertops and drop-leaf dining table.
Good Luck with your 1964 Overlander!
Kevin
Also -- those diamond pleat comfort panels beside the bed(s) in the center of the trailer and the diamond pleat upholstery on the bedroom ceiling is worth preserving if it is in halfway decent shape. Those were part of the optional International Package or available as options on the Land Yacht series. I believe that 1964 was the last year (and possibly only year) for that diamond pleat upholstery panel in the bedroom.

Not in avocado :D
I’m not finding the exact direct shower/no down spout faucet so I’m gonna have to rebuild it. She’s going back into service May 10, so I’m probably waiting for some quiet time before I take the faucet apart - unless somebody out here has done it and says it’s a piece of cake. 🤣
