Yeah but the factory used large flange pop rivets on both my 66 and my 86. And both had galvanic corrosion between the steel frame and the aluminum rivet after many, many years. Both new belly pans will outlast me. Your rivets will work fine.

Very happy to report my floor is down. Bolts on with 3m sealant and Loctite. Cleaned up my end c-channels and reusing them.

We removed the gantrys and built a simple frame and set the shell down.

Now we can flip chassis and leverage the car lift.

My workers are skilled and one not so skilled. I have ZERO skill when it comes to this so between the three of suits good. But I have awesome guidance from all of you.

Nice progress in the positive direction there Glamper Girl!

You are pulling together some very good materials there.
Make sure that you use gloves and clean technic while using the epoxy.
It can become quite irritating if allowed on the skin. Especially with prolonged repeat exposure. Try to find a ribbed roller as well as squeegee for wetting out the cloth. The guy at the fiberglass shop should be able to set you up with the tools. Some ventilation is a good idea while wetting out large areas.

Oh , it wasn't just a game. Rather an excellent Super Bowl that was headed for a super outcome, till it didn't. Had that play worked, it would have been regarded as an out of the box master stroke .

Good you can move on into your project.

I really enjoy your writing and go for it spirit in your rebuild.

Must've been talking about the Pats' 2 losses to the Giants. This last SB was an OUTSTANDING game with an OUTSTANDING result. Despite yet another circus catch against us (we were almost "Kearsed") - the outcome was finally right and all is well in footballville :-)

I take it the worker hanging from the gantry is the not so skilled one. I didn't see a tail anyway.

Working on the frame while it's upside down will make things much easier. I had to lay on my back doing all of that. Jackson Center rolls over the frame to mount a lot of stuff under the frame, then the belly pan, and then the axles. Then they roll it over wheels down.

I'm still polishing. 60+ hours into it and a long, long way to go. Gad! Boring!

Monkey is the welder builder plumber. 26 and calm as a cucumber. The other one has some skill but a few issues from what I suspect to be some past drug use issues. Hard worker but can't think sequentiality. I can do that part at least.

Insulation almost done today. Flipping chassis was somewhat freaky but Monkey Matt rocked it.

Hi thumbelina, You and your hired men are making progress. No offense intended toward your workers. I thought the fella hanging from the gantry was rather funny. I may have used a step ladder as my Tarzan days are over. I could use some hired workers to stand behind my polisher for like 50 hours. It would speed things up for me.

I had a photo error once myself. Air Forums limits the amount of space we can use for photos, and I maxed out some time ago. I learned that if I became a "supporting member" I could have more storage space. I guess nothing is free. So you might consider becoming a paid member. I like to post photos as they help explain what I did on this or that. I'm not an apple user. I have noticed some folks have more trouble with apple iPad photos than PC photos.

One thing you can do is to "link" the images from your google site, rather than attaching them.
use the "insert image" button, and enter the url to the pic.

Dave, the not so competent worker has a strike two today. Strike one was jail two weeks ago. $20 labor still isn't cheap in terms of impact to my time today.

Indy, no concrete plan but here is what I know.

The bath will be shower and compost toilet. Stainless and teak built on a 1 1/2 platform. Floor under has fiberglass fabric protecting the MDO. Insta heat tank.

No gaucho going back in. A technology station with drawers and a top that lifts up like on a sailboat. Next to is the beer tap kegerator. Trying to manage a 6 bottle wine storage too.
Where the heater took up too much space is the start of the large u shape seating and bed with smart storage configured under.

Kitchen cabinet will have heater in the wall by door. Maybe a three burner top but I really just need a microwave / convection and a coffee making altar to my Buddha of coffee.

I have a skylight that will stay.
Rear vent will be a fantastic fan.
The driver side -big window (of three) is going away. I have seven for goodness sake. No need for a complete fishbowl. The bath window still makes me nuts.

Prewire for solar that will mount on the rock guard and detach.

Lift hate going on the truck. Crew cab. Hauling for two bikes.

That's all I have!

I have to March 2 to work everyday. Then I go back to work.
March 31 my friend that owns the shop wants is back.

Aluminum tent is good enough by then.

Question, do you know how high your curbside counter was?

Also,do you know what kind of fridge your going to do?

I have about 40" to bottom of small curbside galley window,and I was looking at doing a Domestic RM2510, but I don't,t think it will fit. Since I have a curbside fridge, I may have to get a shorter one to make it under the counter.

Angst- angst angst -Belly pan angst. We have cut some of the sheets then I stopped work as I am not comfortable. . I have over analyzed and have found a post thread from way back-http://www.airforums.com/forums/f219/78-31-sovereign-14737-4.html
IS THIS A GOOD PLAN BELOW?
Belly Pan Support. The belly pan had been removed at least once before, leaving a line of scars and difficult to remove steel rivets…the sheeting is now held up by 1” x 1/8” aluminum flat bar along the edge frame and main cross members. Looks good and gives an excellent seal to the undercarriage.

I think it makes good sense to do this!

Consider using nut plates and stainless hardware to hold the strips on. Easy to work on it in the future.

I like engineering thoughts! Married to one- once and he was awesome on the "How to skin a cat".

Aerowood used 10/32 pan head screws and 10/32 bolts and installed floating self locking nutplates at all the old pop rivet locations. I didn't see where he had mentioned this bar.

So I am even more lazy because that nutplate work looks like it will take a long time
No idea how that works.

I am feeling like this could be a good idea. Do you still rivet in the nutplates? That is alot to buy. Will be going to Tacoma Screw and or Fastenal tomorrow.

Nut plates (at least the type I'm familiar with) have a floating nut part and a tab that retains it with two rivet holes. Typical ones are designed to have enough friction that the bolt or screw won't back out by itself. It allows the bolt or screw to have some slop for alignment but stops the nut from rotating. Typically found on airplane access panels. They would be s PITA to initially install on the top side of frame member bottom flanges, but if yo have the frame flipped over it would not be too bad.

1/4 turn fasteners would be major overkill but I used some on my van conversion for the propane fill cover I built. Yeah, engineering approach.
