who will be first to turn an AS into a boat?

Here's the story of a rare airplane that many years ago was turned into a boat. I have't read of anyone doing that to an Airstream. Have you?

Forgive me for this but.....
Boats that leak tend to sink, would an Airstream make the best choice for a conversion?

I figured someone would come up with a floating Airstream.

But in getting back to airplanes, I have seen them turned into RVs, homes, restaurants and hotels.

Bill Boeing would like the airplane-boat conversion. His business head was in airplanes, but his heart was in boats. After the U.S. government butted into his business practices in the late 1930s, he pretty well left the company and retired to his yacht, the Taconite. It was often seen plying the B.C. waterways until Boeing's death in 1956.

Of course you can also turn an airplane into a tow vehicle.

Not an airstream, but it may as well be a boat. Beware: This video contains graphic trailer abuse!

Only in OZ.
Taconite was named after the Boing's first business of mining the mineral Taconite.
It's still up in BC where she's kept in a shed out in Port Moody.
I know the owner Gordy and he loves the boat.
Built out of solid Teak....the hull's like 3" thick!
Cool pics

Del, fascinating. Thank-you for the update. Is she still available for charters?

I might be interested in doing a follow-up story. A few years ago I wrote an article about Boeing and the Taconite.

There a guy here locally selling a couple of pontoons on Craigslist for fairly cheap if someone is thinking about building their own...

Hi, I think they did a great job making an airplane into a boat, but they must have run out of money when it was time to install an air conditioner. A house window air; Come on you can do better than that.
