How could I forget Elmo Witherspoon and his B-3. What was the Bar on Hertel Ave?, they played there regularly.
Ever been here Gene?

I lived several blocks from Mulligans and it was truly a zoo, but good people are known to have met there, married and are still together decades later. That must be a contemporary picture, because it looks cleaner.
I used to see Spoon at Sunday's and other bars. He was the singer with the Houserockers, a good blues band. Sometime in the mid-70's, he killed himself and the band changed its name and became less intense. I remember what the guitar player looked like, but no name. There are far more really good guitar players than there are famous ones. By the mid-70's the live music scene in Buffalo was pretty small, but the bars—there were a lot of them–were very active. Endless winters and lack of sun have their effects. Bob and I may have crossed paths many times not knowing the place aluminum would have in our lives later on.
I remember a couple of bars on Hertel, one of which was pretty well known, but the names escape me. I do remember Avenue Pizza on Hertel near Colvin and 2 good Jewish delis.
There was a bar about an hour south of town in the snow belt which always had live music and good regional bands, but, alas, no memory for the name.

Howard and the White Boys
This is a crappy recording, but this is a great band to listen to - some great lead guitar work. They have a live album that is awesome.

The Kamikaze of acoustic guitar, Monty Montgomery.
Little Wing, on acoustic:
I also am enamored of MattRach on YouTube, and Jeff Pevar. Here is a Jeff Pevar solo over backing track of Little Wing:

Love Joe and he is very humble. I play more electric than acoustic -- see this video--kinda crappy sound, but it is at least somewhat recent!!

For those of you who like a little guitar music, here's music on a little guitar. Jake Shimabukuro covering Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody on a ukulele.
It's really excellent. I was surprised when I first saw it.

This song inspired by the cell phone calls from the Twin Towers...never forget.
From the Album "All the Roadrunning" a real Airstream campfire collection.

Bob, I just remembered Bonnie Raitt played at Norton Hall (Univ. of Buffalo) in the early '70's before many people heard of her—there weren't many of us there. Where were you?
She was great and pretty soon lots of people had heard of her.

Prince
I couldn't find a great example of Prince's guitar work, but he is superb - and one of the best showmen out there. If you ever have a chance to see Prince in concert, OMG - what a show!!

Monte Montgomery has several amazing songs on YouTube that I discovered not long ago. His version of Sultans of Swing has much of the parts that Mark Knopfler played on electric guitar, but played on acoustic. And his version of Sara Smile was seen by Daryl Hall, and he called him to be on his show "Live from Daryl's House" ( Episode 9: Monte Montgomery :: Live From Daryl's House with Daryl Hall :: Current Episode).
So many great guitar players. Some styles I might not like as much as others, but I realize that they are no less talented.
Leo Kottke, Steven King (the finger picker, not the writer) .
There are several players on YouTube that really thrill me. Zack Kim plays 2 guitars at the same time, although my favorite from him is an original that he uses a delay/loop box with called Pieces (of You) .
I also like his original "9pm Till I Come".
I also like MattRach (Dark Paradise, The Conquistador, Monophonic, R2D2, etc). He plays all the instruments.
Alex Hutchings has a tremendous combination of technical skill and feeling, but is unknown.
For shredding , I listen to LuteroReforma (Angel Ruiz).
Sorry, I got carried away...
