What's with the pop up ads??
I haven't logged in for a while. But when I did I start seeing these crummy popup ads that you see when your pointer hovers over words like lamp or bed or car.
Is this the new norm?
Maybe it's just a sign of the times? None of the other forums I frequent have had to resort to such money grubbing though.
Just another reason to frequent the place less.
I've been less than enthusiastic about this place since my posts were removed for not being on topic.
Hey Andy, I hope you make a lot of dough.

You are running a third party software that scans for words in web pages.
I do not defend the forums often, but this time it is not Andy's doing.
If you have the Google or Yahoo! toolbar for Internet Explorer they may have that option.
I am not sure but I think IE 7 has something like that too.

I guess if you don't like the ads you can always find another website to go to. You got to pay the bills somehow.

People who see these ads DO NOT have a problem with their computer. And even though I use Firefox on the PC and Safari on the Mac instead of Internet Exploiter with Active-XXX controls, it isn't a browser problem either.
It's this website's use of ContentLink advertising. Use ad blocking software or add the name of the website that sources the ads to the localhost IP in your computer's host file. You shouldn't have to accept a cookie from an advertising company to get rid of them.
To get rid of ContentLink, add the line:
127.0.0.1 kona.kontera.com
Since ContentLink is a JavaScript, you can also disable JavaScript when viewing a site that uses it. But it's easier just to block the site.

Its definitly not a browser issue...it doesn't matter if you use Internet Explorere or Firefox or whatever - you more than likely have spyware. I use Internet Explorer and never get pop ups. Download a spyware clean up tool.

One more time... seeing these ads DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE SPYWARE! ...or 3rd party software generating them.
Andy previously posted in the other recent thread he is using them on this site. "View Source" on a page that has them and "Find" (search) for the word kontera

Yea, if you have a PC you haven't kept up to date, sure. Then again, who knows what new exploit they'll find in PC land today?

It seems to be based on the amount of posts you make. To see what those who don't log in or who do and just don't post often are seeing, log out and view the forum.

It isn't a Windows issue. Safari, Camino, and Firefox on the Mac all show them unless you do something to block them or turn JavaScript off.

My comments were more directed toward the spyware thing that was brought up (cheap shot at Bill and company). You are totally right about the blocking or JavaScript. I should have been more clear!

I don't understand this stuff well enough to know if it was intentionally put on this forums server or not.
But, I can tell you one thing, I don't visit sites where I see crap like that. It makes any site look cheesy IMHO.
Why in the heck would anyone intentionally put junk like that on their server? To make browsing more enjoyable for its users ? I believe an enjoyable browsing experience attracts more viewers. Increase revenue by attracting more viewers, not more tacky marketing schemes.
