What is Wally Byam doing?
I will go in to detail in a few days after we have a good response. This is not a thirteen question, winner take all. It is for good nature fun and to wind up learning more history of the Byam family and Airstream.

Looks like he is searching for the perfect place to dump the remains of 2air's nuclear chili!
Oh, wait, that would have instantly eaten through the pot. Scratch the above.

Well - you asked. I'd say he's going out to dump the "slop jar" - for those that know what that is.....

Nope, that stuff went down the gopher hole. He is out seeking water for the morning coffee. Uncombed hair and still in his PJ's

Boy what great fun it will be to follow this thread. The right pot appears to be full looking at his posture and seeing that the left looks empty. Looking at the landscape I don't think he's gathering greens, But I do think he's going to gather some type of food.

He is looking for a place to wash the chili pot (right hand) with hot soapy water (left hand). Water was heated over camp fire. He will probably use sand to scrub it. Love the white bell bottoms and sandals.

My guess is there is something growing in the field ahead of him, maybe berries. He is going to pick a bunch and serve them up to the folks he is traveling with.

Of couse he is out playing Easter bunny for all the kids along on the caravan. That's why he's in his PJs and has uncombed hair.

Being Wally was a shepherd for a while I wonder if he's going out to do something there - either milk a goat or sheep (can you milk a sheep?) or taking something to his camp.
That'd be my guess.
