What happened to
The "Disapprove" button for Karma? Did people get their feelings hurt and cry about it? If someone gives bad info, we're not allowed to point it out in the forums, because it's perceived as confrontation (I've tried, both the bull by the horns approach and the subtle approach and have been censored on both counts). What's the recourse for know-it-alls who are just dead wrong?
Thanks for the answers.

Everybody loves a comedian...
The "I disapprove" button was removed after too many "I disapprove" buttons were pushed, and too many peeing contests erupted. Then the contestants would complain to us moderators, or go around finding every post the other contestant had made, and "disapproved" them. It just went 'round and 'round, until everyone involved got sucked into the swirling vortex.

That is just plain sad.....and people wonder why the political situation in Washington is FUBAR....we're at the lowest possible level (because this Forum really is a government when you look at it) and the system doesn't work.

So now, when it comes to karma it's....

I liked the system, it gave everyone the opportunity to let the poster know if his post was good or bad. But, like so many good things, people abused the system, and it had to be shelved.

Of note
In this software, the moderators can still dispense bad karma as a first line defense against objectionable posts.
I assume Andy R has allowed this, but do not know.
More than likely he has, but none of the current mods strike me as the type to actually use it.
But now that I think about it, Bob seems like a mean 'un.
I'M KIDDING, BOB!
But red karma is still possible if circumstances are appropriate.

I suppose, if somebody really, REALLY hacked you off with a post, you could leave them positive karma, and put a negative comment in the comment area. It is called a backhanded compliment. It would add to their karma, but they would see the comment until it dropped off their "most recent" page. If you do this, try to keep it civil, we don't want to lose the ability to post karmments.

Tom, it has been turned off across the board, no negative karma allowed by anybody, not even the mods.

Nope...not even mods can not leave negative karma. That's what the "Warn Meter" is for ~ even it is rarely used and almost never without discussion amongst several moderators first.

You know, I had a couple paragraphs written, but I erased it because it wouldn't do any good.
People post misinformation and get away with it with no checks and balances.
I guess I can understand the decision to remove the disapprove button....don't wanna rock the boat, besides if someone ever got fed up with being lambasted about posting misinformation, they could always buy the website!

Press the UserCP button. If you have Karma, it'll show up on the page, with green boxes next to it.
By the way, if you had negative Karma, did it get erased?

I meant good that you can't remove the negative that's already there. Next question Terry, Shari, Jim&Susan and other Mods......are we supposed to bombard you with PM's now, if we find instances of misinformation/propaganda being posted on the forum?
Just curious, you know me !

Believe me, Terry, I wish I weren't. I'm doing everything I can right now to hold my tongue, because I made a promise that I would, but as Popeye once said, "I tooks all that I could, but I can't tooks no more".
I want to know what we can responsibly do to keep certain elements from speaking out of their fourth point of contact. I'm not going into any more detail about it, unless you PM me directly.

Karmments... I like it. Karma to you, Terry.
Although I never used the feature when it existed, I believe the inability to post negative karma inspires us to be more diplomatic and creative in our responses to asinine posts.
