Want to be a Star?

On 5/22/08, I got the following email about the use of vintage Airstreams. I sent an email back asking if I could post his needs on the net. Below, you will find the email chain. I know nothing about "Who/What/Where/How" the contact info can be found below if you want to take part in the film. There is no need to contact me or ask me about this request, I know nothing about it. Please contact Thomas directly.

"Mr. Waddell,
I am a picture car coordinator and in the Baltimore area and I would like to put 6 vintage air stream trailers in a movie we are filming in Baltimore. If you or any of your club members have a vintage trailer we would like to talk to them .The movie takes place in 1953, and we would be leasing them for one or two days as background only. Please let us know if you or anybody you know can help us .
Thank you
Thomas Lombardi
Picture Car Coordinator"

"Thomas,

What are the dates you will need the trailers?

Also, Airstream trailers up to 1958 had 13 panels (end caps). Not real sure the level
of detail you are looking for as a background. Do you only want 50's trailers or will 60's trailers
work for you (1959 to 1962-3 7 panel, 1964-1968 5 panel). I would suggest what ever you do, do not go past 1968 trailers (the body style change for 1969 model year).

Is it OK to post your request out to the web?

Paul Waddell

"Hi Paul,
Thanks very much for helping us with this. Please put this request on the web and whoever is interested in movie work can send us a photo of their trailer or other vintage vehicle of any year and we will store their information for future movie projects also.

6 trailers are needed and they can be any year as long as they look like 1953s or very close. I believe we can use early 1950 - 1959 as you suggested and the later 1050s ones can be farther away from the scene and the more correct, "1953" looking ones will be in closer range. There won't be a huge amount of detail, just to look like movie trailers in a 1953 movie lot.

Filming for this scene is approximately the second week of June ...but the schedule keeps changing because of actor availability issues. Filming is in Baltimore.

The movie is called "My One and Only" starring Renee Zellweger. It is a comedy and will be a very nice movie.

I am a Picture Car Coordinator but when I am not working a movie I am working as an RV tech, so if any of the trailers have a small problem or something I know a bit about it and we can take care of it on set.

Thank you for your time and interest and please tell everyone about our movie and include us in your club news. We are interested in expanding our contacts and reaching all those vintage vehicles stored away for film work. Sometimes it doesn't matter the condition, this movie is calling for everything under the sun for the 1950s...even commercial trucks and farm equipment.
Thank you.
Hope everyone has a safe and pleasant Holiday, enjoy the weather!
Thom

Nice thought!

But be VERY CAREFUL with movie companies!!!

If you want a true horror story, contact Blu_Hwy_Lady or search for her tale of woe at the hands of, IIRC Disney with her trailer and the making of Wild Hogs.

They did thousands of dollars in damage to her trailer, and after editing, it was only in the movie for seconds. Seems hardly worth it, IMHO!
