TT verses Class B

I know these questions are very subjective, but I am torn between a class B and a small TT like a Caravel.


1. I like the idea of a TT because it provides a vehicle to go places, visit sites, stores, etc... But some say unhooking with a class B is not that difficult, only takes a few minutes, and can use it to go most places.
2. When we purchase, we will be about 70, good health, but I don't know how difficult setting up and tearing down, hooking up TT, etc.... will be as we age. Perhaps its no big deal as I know many seniors travel with a TT. But it seems that maybe just driving a class B and not worrying about hooking up to hitch etc. would be better for seniors. Also, things like making sure brakes or ok on TT ok etc...
3. I have never owned an RV and this is why I am seeking opinions from those who have experience.
4. I also know purchasing a nice Class B is a big investment, so I am not sure I can justify the cost compared to a small TT since I don't think I will use it more than 8 weeks per year. Of course, we may love traveling and find it is worthy the investment.
5. My plans following retirement at the present would be the first year to rent cabins etc... and see if we like traveling 8 weeks a year before purchasing an RV; or buy a small TT like the Caravel or Bambi. It appears that even if we concluded that we are not RVer's that we could sell it without losing to much of the investment.


Anyway, I know lots of points, but would appreciate any of your thoughts.

As one data point, DW and I travel with 4 little dogs.

I’m 72 years old, recovering from a broken right ankle, and still have no issues dealing with an Airstream, a ProPride bitch system, a Toyota Tacoma crew cab pickup, and all the activities necessary to use it.

Yes, I move a bit slower lately, but I can still manage our 22 footer. The only real heavy lifting is an 87 pound generator that gets loaded into the truck bed once per trip. It’s big enough to run our air conditioning on the road or boondocking.

All else fails, I can get a heavy duty hydraulic lift table from Harbor Freight to easily lift that load to the truck bed height and store the generator in the garage on the lift.

We are on our third Airstream Travel Trailer. Each time we have traded, we have seriously considered going to a class B touring coach. We have been Airstreaming for 15 years and have over 2,100 nights of Airstream camping under our belt. We have towed out Airstreams about 200,000 miles all over the United States and Canada.

We are both currently 71 years old, and in pretty good health. We can still handle the physical requirements of trailering. As long as we can, I think that we will continue to prefer trailering for the comfort and space.
