Total Solar Eclipse - April 8, 2024

There will be a total solar eclipse across parts of the United States on April 4, 2024. It will extend from Mexico, entering the U.S. through Texas and continue diagonally across the United States before entering eastern Canada. Like the 2017 total solar eclipse, the 2024 event will be on a Monday so start planning now for a long weekend. Post any related information on this thread to share information with others who may want to enjoy this unusual event. Many of us experienced the 2017 eclipse, and almost everyone else heard about how fabulous that experience was, so the 2024 event is sure to be a well-attended.

Post information on this thread about where you plan to be and other useful information about the 2024 total solar eclipse.

Here's a picture of the eclipse path for April 8, 2024

Hi Lucius!

If I'm still up and running in 2024, I plan to get myself to Ohio to watch it.

Hi L & D.

Thanks for starting this thread.

I'm excited about the 2024 eclipse, too. I've already wasted a couple perfectly good mornings perusing possible camping spots!!

Totality lasts longest where the eclipse enters Texas and is shortest when it leaves Maine. So I was mostly looking at Texas and Arkansas.

The eclipse map linked below is zoomable and clickable, so you can find out how long totality lasts anywhere. It also has a geographic place name search, so you can enter all your friends addresses to find out if you need to visit them 8 April '24!!

Happy planning!

Thanks for starting this thread.

As has been mentioned on the other Eclipse threads, Jackson Center, Ohio will be at the totality path and have almost 4 minutes of totality.

That sure would be fun reason to have rally there.

The next major one thru the US will be in 2045.

Sounds like a plan in the making.

I noticed your comment and comments from others on the 2017 eclipse thread. I sent an email to Airstream as well as the publisher of Airstream Life regarding the idea of a 2024 eclipse event in Jackson Center. Hopefully others will send their comments to create some momentum. A 2024 rally at the mother ship would be lots of fun.

We caught this one in Western Kentucky and we're ready for the next one in 2024.

Early April does not bode well for a clear sky and Ohio would be very unlikely. My vote would be Texas and I'll come with fingers crossed

Jackson Center will have a rally!

I have been working with the Village of Jackson Center to do this sort of rally. We should be launching registration in a couple of days. This will be a dry camping event not parked at Airstream. There will be food trucks and entertainment in "downtown" Jackson Center. April 5-8, Arriving after 5:00 PM and departing by 10PM on the 8th.

Been out of the forums for a while, but for those of you who don't know I am also and the person that organizes Alumapalooza. I will post more information as I get it!

Southern Texas has the best odds of having clear skies, so I am plannning on being near I10 on Sunday.

Lake Erie (southern shore) also has an execlent chance of clear skies, due to the lake.

Here the interactive map I am using:

I was there in Cookville TN for the 2017 eclipse!

Ring of Fire

If you look at my new member intro, you will see a pic of my rig in the Black Rcok desert, for the ring of fire eclipse last October.

We got a spot in Arkansas at Quarry Cove NF campground. The odds are better than up north for clear skies and it should be warm. I reserved six months before, but alas my wife got a new job and has no vacation time. So, I'm not sure we're going.

We had a grand time w/ the 2017 eclipse (which was before we had an Airstream); immediately began to think about this one in 2024. After we got the Airstream, I initially expected to head to Texas for it. But over the past year, because of when the eclipse occurs, in conjunction with the school testing calendar (wife is a teacher), heading far off was taken off the table. I realize heading north is less than ideal compared to west, but, it is what it is.

I think standing on the fairway behind my home is easiest location to see this one...no hassles, and if for some reason, the weather is not cooperating, I can always just stay inside!
