Perfect Timing...
...for a quick pop in to the forums.
I bet everyone is out traveling about to all the summer camps.
This is what we have been up to with the "Doner Ella" In the interim of us stripping her out - she is set up in a new camping spot - doubling as a Bunkie extension.
The back was so damaged we would never get it to stop leaking and thus ruin the rest of the trailer - a "Gypsy Wagon" she has become.
Everything still works! a few plumbing leaks - that was to be expected and some damaged propane lines.
It was a sad site - but at least from the rear she now blends in with our homestead.
Before and After.

Wow, that's a great use for a trailer that's had one end smashed - it looks really classy! Much better than ending up stripped in the junkyard!

Abused Airstream
Here is one with a bad case of rear end sag. I did not want to attempt it. Only wanted $600 for it.

The 68 Safari I just bought has a flat window on the front and a rounded one on the side, just where that painted one has one, only my window is wider.

Ever moving again!?
GT6921 -
Great use of something that looked like it was going....? Glad to see the care and ingenuity you used to make the proberbial 'something' out of a 'seeming nothing'.
Is that trailer ever going to ever move again? Is it permanently mounted, or is it on the axles?? Just curious?
Actually reminded me of seeing the train cars of yesteryear with the dignitary and wife waving off the back.... Isn't there a photo of a prez or 3 on the back of something similar?!
Anyway, Kudos!!! GT6921!!

Hey Deb, can you share a pic of your 68? All my windows are square on my 68. I didn't think they started using rounded windows until 69.

Well that is a question and a half. It took us about 3 hours to get her into that spot with the intention of her leaving in peices.
Although it would not take much to rig a set of lights and have her moved slowly to a lake or something but for now she is happy and somewhat respectable sitting waiting for her slaughter.
Now our challenge is the front....any suggestions?
I have completed the quick landscapping around the back of the trailer and while the guys come up with the makeover for the front - I have the challenge of landscapping on the curb side - as you can see I have no problems in making it look like a campsite just the kind-a-place we live.
Thanks for the Cudos - we were starting to scratch our heads wondering if we have really gone off the Tin-deepend...

I think that the desert is a good place for it.... I hear that sometimes miracles occur in desserts..... maybe it'll be transformed.... err... resurrected

I believe that one is permanently moored near the edge of the Salton Sea in Imperial Co. CA. There are all manner of craft moored there in the great sand desert...

More specifically, I'm pretty sure I saw this one at Slab City, so called because it is an informal community of RVers, derelicts, illegal aliens, and outlaws camped on and among the concrete slabs that were once the floors of the buildings at one of Patton's training camps in the desert. Here he trained for the North Africa Campaign. This is the "Preacher's" house. He painted the hill behind him with various hues of mismixed house paint he got for free. You can catch a glimpse in the upper left corner of this photo.

Rounded windows on 68 Safari
As soon as I take some pics, I'll share them, but I also have to replace several of the windows, since they blew out in Hurricane Katrina. One reason the previous owner hadn't replaced them is that the glass is curved. I may be calling the wrong thing rounded, but that's what I mean by rounded. The top of the window curves with the curve of the trailer toward the roof.

A/S 5th Wheel for $42 Grand and God's doin' the drivin'?
Geeze... God brought me here? To view a "home-made A/S 5th wheel"? Well... all I can say is that I'm pretty much believin' God's got better taste than that, especially when it comes to Airstream. And $42 grand? Sounds like a serious case of delusional thinking and rationalization going on. I'd up the meds a few miligrams and leave God out of it....

The window style you are talking about, found in the '66-'68 trailers, are called Corning Glass windows. They are obsolete, however similar replacements can now bw found at Vintage Tailer Supply. If you do a search using "Corning Glass" as your keywords, you'll find all kinds of info here on the forums.
