Heart skipped a beat
Oh . . . no, don't know off hand.
You scared me. By the thread title I thought someone's beloved Airstream got sucked up into the wild blue yonder. Yikes!

That was the old original equalizer hitch ad with the rear wheels removed from the '66 or '67 Toronado. I remember seeing that ad all over when it was current, but I haven't found it online yet. I haven't looked in a couple of years tho...
There's also a Toronado/Airstream moho out there somewhere... there are photos of IT you can find here .

The GMC motorhomes used the same Toranado running gear with the 454 that this home brew special. I think they had more space and more innovative air suspension system. GM lost money on everyone they sold. There is still a club dedicated to the preservation of these unique old RV's.

Thanks for your help locating the Toronado/'Stream. We met a couple at
Alamo Lake S.P. in Arizona who had a beauty GMC moho, when we were
leaving the next day, he'd mentioned he'd "tricked-out" the engine a tad
and could he leave first. We were next to him when he put his foot into it
AND SAT THERE & SMOKED...SMOKED.....OH YES.

I worked at an RV Mfg plant when that Toronado pulling a trailer came through to show off the hitch. I was greatly impressed by that and have always had an equalizer styled hitch ever since.
As for the mating of an Airstream trailer and a Toronado car, per the picture already posted, I've not seen that one in person but I think someone had far too much time on their hands. I know somewhere in the area around Anacortes, WA, friends of ours have seen a milk truck styled cab mated to an Airstream and I've asked them for the pictures.

Oh, I like that. I still have a dream of a built 454 in a stripped 20' Argosy. How fast do you think I could go?

I know this is a 4 year old plus post, but has anyone found this ad for the equalizer hitch anywhere on the internet because I can't find it either.
I have 2 copies of the ad somewhere hidden in my house (will start looking for them) that I have grown up with. I have to say they are the original pictures since they are approximately 8"X10" landscape if I remember correctly.
My dad said it was his gold Toronado that was used in the ad but I'm not sure if I believed him all of these 40 years. So I am now curious whether it was his car or not. So I'm looking for some history on the ad and where the picture was taken.
Thanks for anyone's interest in this weird post of mine!

Yep, that's it. I have that ad in an old magazine somewhere and a framed picture without the ad I believe.
For some reason I thought the gold Toronado was pulling an Airstream. It's been years since I've seen it though, so my memory might be failing!
Maybe I have another ad somewhere of the Toronado/Airstream together!
Thank you for posting the ad for me!!! Brings back some memories!!

It's what I "remembered" also. However, that is a very good looking "vintage kin" aluminum trailer, a Boles Aero for the meantime until someone digs up a press release or Popular Mechanix article.
