Glad you guys made it through
Perry:
Glad you guys made it through the storm safely. My parents rode out the 1979 tornado in Wichita Falls in a closet with my younger sister and the dog. The house was totally destroyed, but they remained safe. We all learned that stuff can be replaced.... Speaks highly of aerodynamics that the AS stayed upright and in one place....
Best

Good set of pics. Real sorry about trees as they take so long to re-grow. Hope the insurance takes care of the rest.
Real cool old Gravely. Takes me back to public elementary school in Dallas (pre air conditioning) and watching Mr. Bush, the custodian, ride the same machine on a two-wheeler attached dolly, mowing the school grounds. That, or the radial-engine airliners inbound to Love Field -- and the sound of the window fans -- sure made some sleepy afternoons in late summer or late spring.
Nothing quite like that green sky when one is inbound, huh?

Thanks for all the well wishes. Today we were lucky enough to have lots of help. Friends showed up ready to work. We got the tree off the house and two trees de-limbed. The back yard is a war zone. We spent time taking my shed apart and removing two Honda 70's and a dirt bike and a bunch of other stuff. We got alot done.
Just a few minutes ago, I started up the security camera server and watched the event. It too mere seconds for the damage to occur. I even got to see the awning torn off my Airstream. An SOB trailer would have been rubble. I saw the trees one moment and none the next. The skyline changed in seconds. It was emotional to watch my yard being destroyed. The event occured at 9:59 AM on 03/03/12.

I'm glad that you were not hurt. I know how difficult it can be to look at the damage and think about the cleanup. We are down here on the Gulf Coast and have to deal with hurricanes. Even when we don't get a direct hit, there's always cleanup to do. But, at least we have ample warning and can get things tied down before anything hits.

It takes seconds and everything is gone. Thanks again folks for all the good thoughts. Judging from the video the Airstream took a lot of cross wind and it moved over about a foot. I bet if a tornado went through a trailer park the only trailers left would be Airstreams.

Geez, Perry, So glad everybody is OK. Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. Don't let it stress you...it's just stuff. (easy for me to say, huh?)

Wow Perry! Thank God you made it thru! My wife and I were watching the news with horror. So crazy, I would be bummed about the yard too. The nice thing is that it will grow back and stuff is just stuff. I lost everything in a house fire several years ago. Now I have better stuff, and quite a bit more than I need. As long as you have your loved ones (and that Airstream) its all good! Funny how things like this put it all in prospective.

Perry,
Glad to see you survived ok.
The tornado's hit approximately 10 miles south of where I live and showered debris down on my parents farm. Here are a couple of pictures sent to me. I helped a family friend put fence back up in the Peach Grove, KY area over the weekend, there were cows everywhere. This family had house damage but lost all the barns and outbuildings. He said it only lasted a few seconds...

A fifth wheel RV
This one tells it all, pic was taken near Peach Grove, KY.

I was driving around last night and took a different way home to check out some tornado damage in another area that got hit with the same tornado. Next to a house that had some wind damage like mine did there was the frame of a 5th wheel SOB trailer. The wind had blown away the sheet metal and match stick wood. However, my Airstream survived with little damage. These things are tanks compared to SOB trailers.

Two kinds of benefits, actually... the natural advantage of arch vs. post-and-lintel, and the aerodynamic benefits as well.
