The rare Torrey Pines in Del Mar

As a native San Diegan, I am appreciating our local County, State, and National Parks before they are eliminated and sold off due to budget cut backs. I learned of this threat while attending a National Trust conference in San Diego a week ago. Representatives of Oregon, Calif. and AZ state parks Arizona State Parks Foundation
told of how politicians are using "demolition by neglect" and back-door politics to sell off park lands. The Big Horn Sheep habitat in Anza-Borrego State park is being threated by a recent decision by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Metro -- Bighorns facing smaller habitat

The development of State and National Parks date back to the Depression. It was Wally's generation that preserved the land for us to enjoy.

I see the examples of the rare and indigenous Torrey Pines in the Del Mar photos. These only grow in 2 places in the world, Torrey Pines State Reserve and Santa Rosa Island. R-Alpine, Congressman Duncan Hunter wanted to remove Santa Rosa Island from the Channel Islands National Park and use it as a hunting reserve for his cronies.Senate turns down island hunting bill | The San Diego Union-Tribune

Please continue your great work to remind us of the history and not to take for granted our State and National Parks. Readers, please check out your State Park Foundation and National Park Foundation sites for further information on this subject.
