Storing Pink Flamingo's

My wife and I are not yet full fledged members because a new Airstream doesn't sit on our driveway "YET". Not long to wait now. However, I have some important questions to ask of those fortunate to own an American icon.

1. What is the best way to store items such as compressors, grills etc. in the coach so that stay put while on the road? I have a pickup but plan on putting an ATV in the back.

2. Whats with the Pink Flamingo? Is it an ancient Airstream high sign or does it mean it's cocktail hour?

1. I keep my compressor and generator in the back of my truck. No grill.
2. even the people at the factory do not knowthe origin of the sacred pink flamingo.

The flamingos are a vintage symbol...a "retro" look that lots of Airstreamers like. They went out of favor for a while but are back in a big way. And if you put enough out I'm sure friends will drop by for cocktails.

I set my grill on the floor of the trailer (secured of course) but it's small and stable. I haven't traveled with the generator much but it will go there too as my dog gets the back deck of my Jeep (TV).

Welcome and I hope you get yours soon!

The pink ones don't smell, locate wine like the olive drab species! The dominant male is easy to spot with the bowtie plumage.
The Weber Q-100 rides in a plastic tub on the floor between the dinette seats.
Compressor? how big?
Save room for meat and beer, DG

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

We carry a Cobb Charcoal Grill in Lucy. We store it for travel in the comparment under the street side dinette bench. We also carry a combination jump starter/compressor in the Suburban, but it would fit in with the grill.

We travel with eight Flamingos (3 pair of standard and 1 pair of LED lighted) at all times. If we are at a campground for a night or two, we usually just put out Fred and Ethel (the lighted pair). On a longer stay, we deploy the entire flock. Plastic Famingos are known to ward off evil spirits from Airstreams. We don't like to take chances.

Flamingos are a must!

We were lucky enough to win a pair at the "Can Opener" this year, you have to have them.

I keep them in a locker up front.

The flamingo deal appparently started in the late 40's, early 50's when folks would vacation in FLA. They'd bring 'em back just to show they had been there...a posh thing. The flamingo rep stuck for a long time, almost vanished, but has resurfaced...especially with us 'streamers. We always travel with at least two pair.
By the way, all our extra stuff rides in the back of the pickup (covered, with a large shelf in it so we have two layers of space.)

I was told the flamingos were representative of "Trailer Trash", and that many people considered any RV including Airstreams "Trailer Trash" back in the day.

After getting a "lecture" from Rachelle at Morraine due to our pitiful flamingo windsock, we have loaded up with two more wooden ones in addition to the stuff she sent me.

I will be trailer trash out in full force next time I camp...and Army of flamingos.

As for the grill (Colemean Roadtrip Grill), it fols down and we keep in in the rear of the truck.

Depending on the model of Airstream you can put a BBQ in an outer compartment or under a bed or sofa and even "wedged under a dinette. Don't worry after you get your trailer you'll find a space.

No matter what others may say there are three symbols of a man with a let's have a party attitude. Hawiian shirts, Pirate flags and pink flamingos.

So if you see an Airstream with a Pirate flag fluttering amid Pink Flamingos and a fellow wearing a Hawiian shirt. Get your glass and bring a plate for the potluck cause a party will erupt at any moment.

You need to have your own food show "The Classy gourmet".

My Weber Baby Q is stored inside the Weber roll away duffle bag and then placed on the floor of the trailer next to the couch, TV and VCR for a comfortable ride.
