Updates

Hi Everyone -

Again, thanks so much for the support. As for the reprimand. I was definitely naive and irresponsible, which makes it sting all that much more. I bought the Airstream on a whim knowing nothing about campers and was kind of figuring it all out as I went along.

All I can do now is try to get the word out and hope for the best. I did have a connection at Channel 3 news, so I pitched the story and they ran it as one of their top stories on Friday night! Here's the clip: kyw.com - Local Woman Goes On Search For Beloved 'Twink'

I've also notified about 30 dealerships in the area. I notified the corporate office of Airstream and they sent out an alert to his dealerships as well. I asked if there's anyway they could put it in the Airstream newsletter. I had written an article about my trip in our local newspaper which they ran in that newsletter, so we'll see. I posted info on Craig's List & have been checking EBay.

More info:
Stolen from: Front & Snyder Streets in Philadelphia
VIN 24D5V1022
Plate # XCB9560
Title # 63036278001FU

Fingers still crossed...

- Rachel

Good Luck Rachel

We will be on the look out for Twink here in Northern VA and when we go on trips to WV and Jersy Shore. Great article about your airstream odyssey. Keep up your writing. Gene and Laura Smith

Although I have not been a member of this forum for a very long time, I know that everyone here will try to do everything in their power to try to retrieve this missing airstream. I have thought of something that we can do in a fairly passive manner that may be of immense help. I know that for myself Airstreams are not my only interest. As per my forum name SaabLover you may or may not know that I am greatly interested in Saabs. I presently on a 1992 Saab 900S convertible with only 55,000 miles on odometer. My other interests or profession as it may be is woodworking. So I am members of two forums that are dedicated to these two other interests. So as of this morning I posted on these two forums a solicitation of help in trying to locate Rachels missing Airstream. The other two forums are saabcentral.com and woodnet.com. So what I am proposing is that any of the other members who may be members of other forums that have a wide reaching member base please post a "Call To Arms". As the more eyes are open and looking for her beloved "Twink" the better. I know that by me posting in just two other forums I have increased the number of people actually looking for her trailer by thousands. So if you could find the time to do as I have done before her "Twink" gets too far afield we may actually be able to find this guy.

Many thanks to all and let's get Rachel back her "Twink"

That's not a bad idea.

Although we hear of Airstream thefts pretty often, I don't recall hearing of any being recovered.

I wonder if a notable percentage of these stolen Airsteams and other RV's aren't loaded onto ships and moved rather rapidly to foreign countries.

Also, does anybody know whether Thor/Airstream maintains a database of stolen trailers? I had recommended this a couple years ago. The company I worked for before I retired maintained a central record of our company's stolen equipment. You'd be amazed at
how useful this was, and how often things got "found" that way -- Thieves aren't often the smartest people. They sell the stolen goods, and when the new owner takes it in for service, and it's serial number is referenced against a database of stolen equipment serial numbers -- BINGO!

I did contact the CEO of Airstream, so if there is any kind of database, he should know about it. I know he said he alerted his dealerships.

I just read this story of a recovered Airstream. So I'm keepin' the faith! WE FOUND IT!!! Doug & Margie's Airstream Page

SaabLover - thanks so much for posting on other forums! It has really been uplifting to have total strangers showing me support in my search. It is so appreciated.

I made posters today and I am posting them all over the neighborhood that it was stolen from. South Philadelphia neighbors are notorious for being nosey, so I can't imagine many things happening that one of the wives didn't see. : )

The search continues...

Your link provides an absolutely amazing and upbeat story! Who'd a thunk it? This makes you think maybe it's possible for the trailer to still be in your area, perhaps being used for clandestine purposes. Best wishes that you may have just as exciting a recovery of your Twink. ~G

A 2-3 years ago there was a couple that had their Airstream stolen from a self-storage lot in Marietta, GA (northern suburb of Atlanta). It was later found in a guy's back yard in McDonough, GA (southern suburb of Atlanta) along with a Bobcat and other stolen items. By this time, the insurance had already settled on the value of the nearly new Airstream and it had been replaced. The couple was able to retrieve some of their personal items, but the Airstream door, door lock, and electric hitch jack were ruined. Kind of, sort of, almost a good ending.

MY experience

In the past, when I lost a pet or had something stolen (big) I would get with both the electric and gas meter readers. Offering a big reward to this group always had them looking....looking in places where many would never have access to. I always had good results. When the, if stolen, item was found I had a guy (Soprano/Rodrigez type...lots of prison tatoos) go get it. I'm still looking for Twink.

I haven't heard a peep. But every time I see an Argosy on CL or eBay I am looking it over very closely for any Identifiing marking, those flowers on the front or didn't it have flowers? That's why I am back here today I need a refresher on just exactly what the interior and exterior looked like. I saw one that could be a close match. But had been painted on the exterior or so it seemed. The interior is rather run-of-the-mill nothing special. Anyway the hunt continues.

Eyes of Texas

Just read of the unfortunate event. Really hits home since I have almost the identical trailer setup. Wouldn't know what to do without great friends on this forum. Count me in to be the eyes of Texas looking out for that stolen Argosy! Don't give up.

Coast to Coast APB for "Twink"

On the lookout for Twink in Southern California. To echo the other sentiments, I hope you have a positive outcome soon. The weather is getting better and I bet Twink misses you as much as you miss Twink.

UPDATE on the search for the Twink...

Hello again. It's been a while since I logged on, but that's because I have no good news regarding my stolen camper. Even though it was a top story on the local news, it never turned up. No sign of it online, no word from anyone who had seen it... it's seems as if it's gone for good.

There have been so many weekends that I've wanted to take it out on a trip, but then I remember it was stolen. It's still heart breaking.

But, I'm always an optimist. I know good reason can be found in every situation. So I just try to believe that an even greater opportunity will come along that I may not have gotten if I was preoccupied with my camper or traveling all of the time with it. I recently landed an amazing deal with an Airline to do freelance travel writing, so perhaps I would have never tried for that if I was still traveling around in my camper. And hopefully that deal will make me enough money to buy 3 new campers! {sigh}

What's done is done, and there's nothing I can do to bring my camper back, so the only thing to do is move forward. I'm sure I'll have another one someday.

Thanks again for everyone's support!

- Rachel

Rachel,

Maybe this will help you move on.

Your trailer is probably now a traveling meth lab and is so toxic, you wouldn't want it back.

Your travel writing gig will net you so much cash that you can order a NEW one to your liking.

They just announced the Safari Sport.

Karma?

Rachel, Just read your story. A sad situation. Some people are capable of
hurting others and take what does NOT belong to them. And then their are people (who belong to this forum) are fine and will try and find your Twink.

Rachel,
I just re-read all of the posts, I did not see any mention of insurance - was the trailer insured?

Still keeping one eye peeled as my mother used to say...

I hope you are enjoying your writing for the airline. When you get back, maybe you can write for the Forum? Sorry for your loss. I hope the person who stole it isn't able to get a title for it and you some day recover it - or even better - find the perfect travel trailer. Best Wishes
