SOLEX moped

I have a chance to buy a Solex moped. It looks just like this one in picture. It runs and needs a good cleaning other than that nice shape.
What would be a fair price? I don't want to pay too much & don't want to burn the guy either.
Thank you!

$200/300 I have sold and repaired many. Tomas are a better moped but cost more.

They are becoming collectible. I've had quite a few and worked on them over the years. Simple friction drive. I used to order parts from small engine shops but now it's all Ebay.

Carburetors and fuel pump are very finicky on the little engines. Don't put ethanol in them.

$400 is about what I would pay for a good one, seen plenty go for $150-$200 at auction. Good luck!

Wow, there's actually someone else out there who's worked on them!

That's my trailer!! It depends on the year, the mid 50's models are quite rare. I'm working on one right now. I've gone through the entire fuel system on it, just going to pull the flywheel cover and do timing and adjust points and then the new tires and it's done. PM if you have any questions.

If you're ok with a late 60's early 70's model (they don't look much different really) then upwards of $500 running. Expect double that for a late 40's/early 50's model. There is a facebook group that is very helpful. Brian out of New York on there has imported a lot of parts and is an encyclopedia of knowledge on these bikes.

May I ask about when that photo was taken? Neat image, just wondering if taken in period, or at a vintage gathering.

Cheers Richard

Richard, that's a picture of Wally Byam's trailer from the 1956 European Caravan. Thread on the restoration is here:
