Seen rotting in a field...

I stumbled upon this trailer sitting in a field behind a fence just North of Tampa in a fairly remote backwoodsy area. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but it has a large aluminum chimney of sorts built on top. The rear bath window is covered with aluminum. Some windows are missing, and it is up on blocks with both axles detached and laying in the grass rusting. Some of the banana wrap was also hanging down as if someone at some time had been trying to repair this trailer. It appears to be an early 70's Overlander, which of course is dear to my heart.

The rest of the shell looked in pretty good shape from the distance I was at, and like most of you, my pulse quickened at the thought of useable parts, or simply giving it a decent burial. I didn't approach the neighboring home for fear of being mistaken for the "Revenuer Man" and wanted to avoid being hit by buckshot. I took my pictures from a safe distance with the truck in Drive, and the motor running.

A moment of silence for this trailer......

Too sad! There's a little vintage AS hanging out in a field not too far from me, but I dare not cross the No Tresspassing signs to knock on the door and see if they'd like to sell it - might get a seat full of buckshot myself. I did figure out the address and wrote them a letter though, hoping they might be interested in parting with it, but got no response. You never know what makes people hold onto these old treasures, but it's sad to just see them falling apart like that.

Sitting next to a Antenna? looks like Guide wires in the pictures. Bet it's been made into a radio hut. The shell would be very good at sheilding and preventing loop back and sheilding issues. I bet it's in use
