Really, really new Bambi!

Yesterday, a doe spent most of the afternoon in the tall grass behind my neighbor's rear fence. When I went out for the paper this morning about 6:30, I spooked the doe near my workshop. I noticed something on the ground and found this, still slightly damp, fawn in the grass. It never moved while I went in for the camera and never moved when I later stroked its back. The doe stayed about 50 yards away and watched through all of this.

The doe come back for her fawn about 10 minutes after I went back in the house.

I agree. I'm thinkin' that it would be a good paint scheme for a Minuet. "Argosy Bambi" and all.

Lived for years out in the hill country between Wimberley and Driftwood down in the tail of Hays County. Saw more deer and wild turkeys there than anywhere. Pretty country! Hi to all the Hays County people.
