"Oh, you bought an Airstream to be cool"

"They're overpriced garbage."

"Everything on them is a speciality part."

"Over priced for what you get"

"My 5th wheel has more room, no way can anyone live in one of those"

I'm getting so tired of the usual nonsense from other people I know about why we have an Airstream.

So glad to not be at work. my unit has turned into the self-inflicted-gun shot-wound to the-----(insert any body part you want) or the delirium-unit. Takes a toll. Can't wait 'til our trailer parts arrive and we can get rolling.

Consider the (totally uninformed) source of the silly comments and move on.

Personally I've not had any of this silliness yet. Most that see our AS say very nice things about it.

I didn't buy an Airstream to be cool. An Airstream is cool because I bought it... But that happens to everything I touch. You all get to reap the rewards of my awesomeness!

Best one was somewhere in Texas, on a lunch break at a Cracker Barrel. We occupied about 10 parking slots in the shopping center behind the CB, which did not have RV pRking like many of them

At least 5 people drive by, did a double take, and swung past to yell, "Nice coach! Do they still make them?"

"Of course! This one was made in 2007! They still make them today!"

We had so many drive by comments we had trouble feeding our territorial pack of doggies. The dogs think that the AS is theirs on the road and decent it vigorously. We get slowed down at gas stations with the same questions and comments.

Yup, it's ours, and it's very cool!

Note to self. When eating pizza for a quick dinner, do NOT try to catch up on this thread. There may be references to stomach-turning rodent delicacies.

Yikes!

Random thoughts?

This thread is always interesting.... and I see there are the comments referencing the "Do they still make those".....

So, the other part is, why?

A truthful statement...or at least as close as I can get to the truth..... In 2008, I was riding across US 2 on the return leg of my 7,000 mile solo motorcycle ride to Portland, Oregon and after having to unpack and repack my moto every night at the Hampton Inn's, I got to thinking there was a better way to do this. So, to my local AS dealer I went, thinking I might want to at least become educated.

They looked so nice and I thought, "Gosh, must be at least $25,000 or more" but I could handle this. And the fact I had a white Porsche Cayenne in those days, the commercial told me this must be a message from .....OK, not a direct message, but at least I felt drawn in to the Aluminitis disease.

Then I looked at the price tag, and after a few minutes of CPR, I looked again....two weeks later I am purchasing an International, at the end of the model year, 25D I think was the configuration, and off I went with my Cayenne Turbo pulling it easily.....oh, yes, about 10-11 mpg.....and with a fuel shortage, especially Hi test, this was a problem.

Next sticker shock, Dodge Diesel....again, purchased at the model year end, and a super TV by my experience so far.

But, the bed on a 25D cannot be made up by humans.....at least not this one. So, the 27FB...absolutely wonderful. However, a complication of Aluminitis is the idea of going even bigger....so to an SOB, Tiffin's Allegro Bus. Nice, but after a few years, just too big for me, so back to another SOB (from the Tiffin perspective) and after selling the bus, a new Serenity....doggone, they did not have a Classic at that time.....

Now after all this, as far as I am concerned, I deserve an Airstream....and that is why I have an Airstream. Of course, pulling an AS one always has the pleasure of listening to those with their huge fifth wheels talk about the 17 mpg towing..etc., and other fantasy stories.

And, if I am mean spirited I can walk around an RV campground talking to the moho owners and ask if they have any troubles with the moho....usually this results in their not continuing the conversation.....more

Maybe this post should have been in the thread Welcome to the Breakfast Club... but as it has a few breakdowns in reality testing, I thought it was more random.....

Enjoy!

There are quite a few Airstream trailers around here. I see one every now and then parked in somebody's drive or in a parking area. I see one on the road now and then. However, I almost never see one in any of our local campgrounds. I am usually the only AS in any of them around here.

I'm guessing that SOBs outnumber Airstreams 1000 to 1 around here. But I still wonder why the parked ones never seem to move. There is one other than mine here in our tiny little village. I have never seen it move, either.

What's up with that?

My guess is that they read those threads on ST tires and whether you could have Michelin LT tires without incurring liability or did they have to be 16 inch rims or maybe even could you pull them with a Audi or anything less than a monster truck and they are frozen in fear....

They're just afraid to move...

Well, I have to admit, it is pretty cool to have a shiny Airstream in the driveway.

(Someday I will have to learn how to use it.)
