Just finished destroying a Chinese buffet... I closely resemble a kitchen Buddha now. People kept rubbing my belly for good luck. It got embarrassing before I could get out of there. My picture is now up behind the cash register...

Well, that was interesting. Absolutely nothing happened on my birthday. Quite a few things before and after, but nothing on THE day that I arrived.
Hmmm... does that make me the most important thing to happen on that special day? Naw, probably not.

First race run on the Indianapolis Motor Sppedway was on 19 August 1909. The four lap ten mile race was won by my grandfather. The track surface was broken up over that weekend of both car and motorcycle racing. He told me only three drivers were killed that weekend. He got a second place finish the next day.
A new surface of bricks paved the track for the 1911 500 mile race. White sand was periodically thrown on the track corners to absorb the oil leaking out of the cars. The side affect was sand blasted lenses on the driver's goggles that had to be replaced often during the race.
