Just to update you all, after much prayer, and EEG's showing no brain function, my brother asked the doctors to take his wife off of life support. Her heart was beginning to fail while on life support, and she never regained conciousness.... He has two kids at home, and I can't imagine what life is like right now. Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes. He's going to wait a month, and then we're having a party to celebrate her life... I'm liking that idea a lot better than a funeral.

Many thoughts of support for your brother, Red. A really tough decision to make and live with.

Red,
I just noticed what you've got listed in your avatar. '74 Sovereign. My folks had a '76 Sovereign that our family traveled everywhere east of the Mississippi, in. He had a '65 Ambassador before that, that the fam explored quite a bit west of the Mississippi.. but, that was before my time.
I remember he had the Tropic Room on the awning, for extra space... since there were 10 of us kids. We- that is, the boys.. all eight of us, were not allowed in the trailer. Only mom, dad, and the two girls. Didn't bother us any... we used to get to a destination, jump out of the van, and not come back till dark.
Funny, I'd never let any of my kids do that-- the ones under eight years old, anyway. I guess I'm just more protective/paranoid. Thinking back, they were probably secretly hoping a few of us would get shanghaied... I mean, with that many, who would notice, right?
I found a '76 near Indianapolis a few years back that I wanted to buy and reno, for old times sake... same layout.. rear bath, mid twin bunks... but, it was just too beat up. My DW would have killed me.
Anyhoo... counting down the days to Easter

Hey Joe! The majority of the camping trips my kids are going to remember were made in a 1983 Winnebago Brave. We went all over the southeast in it... I had all girls, so the experience was a bit different.
Growing up, my dad was president of a computer maintenance company and was on the road a lot, and we owned a decent size cattle farm here in north Florida also, so most of my camping was in the woods on the farm, with my cousins... no adults, kind of a Lord of the Flies thing going on there. It was awesome. Occasionally we went on fishing trips to the gulf coast and camped on small islands just off the coast. When dad was home, the trips were more exotic than the farm, and, like you, we hit the ground running and usually didn't return until forced to by hunger...
My youngest is 17 now, and has no desire whatsoever to go camping with us, so we're waiting on grandkids... Not sure if we'll let them in the camper or not . I kid, I kid... I can't wait until my grandkids will have stories of their crazy grand-dude and that stupid Airstream...
-Red, reminiscing and looking forward all at the same time...

OK, just heard today that they're releasing a movie titled "Truth", starring Robert Redford as Dan Rather, that is about the whole Dan Rather story on documents that were critical of President GW Bush's Air National Guard service...
Alrighty, I don't care what you think of W as President, but the papers were proven to be false... forgeries printed on a modern printer, in Times New Roman font, which was not available on any typewriter. It would have been Courier... And the movie is coming from the angle that the story is true, and the documents were real. What the heck is the purpose of this? If there was some kind of conspiratorial cover up type thing going on, maybe I'd get it, but nobody questions that these documents were faked... Rather got all excited and jumped the gun, seeing only what he wanted to see, a juicy story, and failed to check it out before releasing it. Lazy journalism. That's what the movie should be about. How lazy journalism killed the career of the top news reporter of the day...
Why spend the kind of money that it will take to produce a movie that is so easily refuted? It will never recoup the original investment. I'm not getting it... Is it to tear down W's reputation? Seriously, he's not going down in the history books as one of the greats anyways. Probably all you'll ever read about him will be a snippet on the Iraq war, and that there were two of them, which 50 years from now will frustrate the crap out of kids that have to take American History... W or HW, W or HW... which one was first?
You want to do something good with the millions that this movie will cost? Go find some of the vets whose lives were derailed by having to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq, who lost limbs, maybe the families of those that lost their lives and are struggling to make it, and give them the money you're wasting on promoting a lie... Help them out, give them a hand up. Build them up instead of tearing someone else down.
-Red, completely befuddled...

Naw...as a former Airwing Jarhead who was pulled off the range and almost had his MOS changed from 7113 to 0317, I want nothing to do with that movie.....thank you very much.

I can't imagine that anyone would want much to do with that movie... Like I said, I'm befuddled. Compare what American Sniper is doing to what this will do... I can't understand why they'd even make this movie.
-Red, confused completely...

Red,
I'm afraid we are discussing the same two movies... from opposite sides.
I have no desire to see Robert Redford portraying Dan Rather, the same goes for that other movie.

Saw The Patriot for the first time last night...
Now that was a good movie.....
It only took me fifteen years to watch it... So if I follow true to form, I will be posting about American Sniper around the year 2030.....

Like Mr Morgan, I'll probably see Sniper way in the future. The other one, I won't waste my time.
I agree about the profits from Sniper. I'd like to see a lot of that go to vets and families also...

Can't bring myself to watch "The Deer Hunter" or "Full Metal Jacket"...
If we allow "random thoughts" to remain the theme... Well... Pray for peace!
....feeling the effect of "unintentional creeping excerpts" and out takes... Or memory...

cwf, I never really understood - until I tried to help a Vietnam vet write his memoirs.
It was never completed. I don't like to talk about it because I have no right. I wasn't there.
But, there is one movie that is worth watching - even if it's just this one scene. May those who served find some comfort in the closing narrative.
And, thank-you for that service.

Loved, loved, loved the American Sniper. So sad, but so well portrayed. There wasn't a soul talking when we exited the theatre.

Lordy Mercy
Dan Rather and Robert Redford in the same sentence. What a way to start my 'Forum surfin' for the night.
Let's be realistic for for a moment. Redford is a pretty face that can recall his lines, remember where to stand on stage, all on demand. I have a dog that performs similar functions. "Here boy, here's a treat, now roll over." The main difference seems to be in the pay-off. Millions of $$ for one, a full stomach for the other.
Dan Rather is simply a fraud. Period. He has some weird political agenda that he must push. Truth is immaterial. He was essentially fired from CBS because the original story about Dubya several years ago was based on facts that were simply made up, dreamed up, fantasy. Regular folk would say he lied. Sorry, he's a useless human being at this point. He's just trying to redeem himself. Never going to happen to anybody with two brain cells to rub together.
By the way, do a Google search on 'ol Dan and the Kennedy assassination. He was the reporter "Live! On the scene!" at Parkland that day if memory serves. Interestingly, his career at CBS was nothing but "up" from that point on. I particularly liked the fake weeping (THIS IS GOING TO MAKE ME A STAR!!!). Gimme a break.
Maybe we can send Danny Boy a copy of the "MJ-12" documents and he can go find the The Little Green Intergalactic Guys from Roswell, NM.
Can you tell I don't have much respect for so-called "Journalists" or most of "Hollywood"?
I hope I haven't been unclear about my feelings in these matters.
Jim
