Thank you, Carmilla. You confirm what I've suspected when looking at frames on the internet--flimsy, not what I want. I think that is what I admired about yours: it looks very sturdy, like the ones I remember elderly friends quilting on decades ago. I may look into having an Amish set made when we go visit friends in North Missouri next month. These men have marvelous wood working skills, would understand the need for sturdiness as well as functionality. I know I want locking sprockets or gears, much like I used on a floor loom years ago to keep tension tight and even. Thank you for describing your frame. You've given me ideas that may turn into a terrific set of frames for my own hand quilting! ~G

Extension

I'm up for whatever the group decides on. Personally, I'd benefit from an extension as well!

For whomever would like it- once I get this quilt off the rack, I'd be happy to take detailed photos for those looking to build their own. The only downside to mine is that it doesn't tilt. I think quilting would be easier on my back if it tilted.

Is it possible to block up the back two "feet" to give a tilted surface for quilting? Or would that put a strain on the cross pieces? I'd love to see your frame in close up photos. Thanks so much for thinking of this. ~G

Extension

What is the group vote? Are we drawing today or extending until Halloween?

I'd like in on the Halloween deadline since I didn't see this thread till now!

As of last week I had 48 tops waiting to be quilted. Lest you faint in horror on my behalf, remember that up until the last few years I sold my quilts, sometimes 60 in a year, so am used to sailing through them. But it would be good to pick one, or 8, and git 'er done.

I have a longarm too, but haven't put a quilt on there in so long that I'm weirdly intimidated by the machine.

Here is one of my UFOs (the bargello). The 2nd pic is one of the few quilts I loved too much to sell:

Ahh...the watercolor quilt. I did my first one for a bably quilt two years ago. It was a "family tree." Hoping to do a second one when this project is done. It's lovely!

New deadline

Halloween it is.

but NO extensions after that. Let;s not lie to ourselves and pretend we're going to get anything done once the Thanksgiving/Chrismas/Winter Solstice season gets here.

For some reason, I've lost my ability to see these posts updated in my emails as they are posted, so had lost track of what was going on here. I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one who has not finished my UFO by Labor Day. Can any of you tell me how to get back to seeing these posts on my email? The web site has changed a bit and I can't seem to find the part that allowed me to set up receiving updates as they are posted. Thanks!

Is there any action on the UFO's, due by Halloween? Unfortunately, I worked some on old unfinished Christmas and other sewings, but started more new projects, so now I'm more behind than I was last spring! Who, out there, finished some old projects? I'll be so proud of you and ashamed of me Pics, please! ~G

I wish I could say I was one of those who did finish. Instead, like you, I started some new ones, though I continue to work on the one I "entered" with the hopes/intention of completing it. Sigh.....

I'm sorry!!!!

I'm sorry!!! Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!!

I COMPLETELY forgot to do the drawing!!! I will go back through the loop today, and draw our UFO winner!!!! I will use our standard impartial system of laying the names out on the floor and which ever one the dog picks wins.

Also, I have to share, the darling young boy sleeping on my quilt has passed on. Please don't feel sorry for us. Prior to his quilting years, he spent 8 years in a severe abuse/neglect home. He had 4 good years of children carrying him around on a satin pillow, custom making his food, sewing him winter coats, and as you can see, supervising my quilting. He was loved and cared for in his golden years, which is all any of us can ask for.

I promise to be more up on things in the future!!!

Tess

Tess, so sorry to hear about your little guy. We lost our little malit-pek about 4 years ago. It was very hard on both of us and has taken us all that time to finally break down and we have a new puppy arriving on Sunday. Very excited and looking forward to traveling with our new baby, Sadie.
