The smoke came and some went—it came from Alberta, a province that has tried to defy the Canadian federal gov't with nullification threats, like S. Carolina before the Civil War. The irony is oil makes for more heat and less rain and then the forests burn. So, can we erect a wall around Alberta to keep the smoke in? After a winter we hadn't seen in at least a decade, rivers are high and vegetation is growing fast, undoubtedly contributing to more to burn while the weather has abruptly changed back to drought weather. My eyes have been irritated for a week as smoke ebbs and flows and we keep windows closed most of the time.

If you've just discovered this thread, you may not know why it started, but the story must be told in private.

Hi Gene...

Speaking of C-eh-n-eh-d-eh smoke, did you know that it takes 408 gallons of California water to grow 1lb of Almond's for the butter that nobody likes.

Actually, many like Almond Butter. For a comparison beef on the table requires 1,559 gallon per pound. One pound of Almond butter get many more sandwiches then one hamburger. The controversy is California water deficit.[emoji854]

This is a great argument against eating beef. The conversion rate for beef is also very high (ratio of feed to useable meat).

This year many of the almond groves have been flooded and the blooming seasoned ruined. We’ll see shortages and higher prices with almonds this year.

Reminds me of How Much Wood Could a Woodchuck Chuck?

Regarding the Almond Brothers... if each band member required one gallon to continue growing then I think it would take at least six gallons. Don't know if that's per day, per week, per gig...

Truly trivial first world problem.

Stumbled.to the kitchen in the dark to make coffee. Only one.dim under counter light on, and darn, why are coffee scoops coffee colored. Ive recently used most of a.bottle of cheap pink nail polish to highlight switches on LITTLE switches and little recharge ports for fans, light bars, clocks, cell phones, etc. So glad LED stuff lasts so long, but please make it easier to use these things in dim lighting.

Watched several videos recently, some of them pertaining to WBCCI, and wonder why some people record videos in "portrait" mode when most people will be watching them on a computer in "landscape" mode.

Noticed the same thing during Covid when musicians were having online concerts - some of them would set up their smart phones in a vertical/portrait orientation when most people (okay, maybe it's only me) want to watch on a larger screen in horizontal/landscape/16:9 orientation.

Seems like if you pour very slowly, only number 7 would fill. Who knows... pour quickly and maybe they all fill and foam over!

I was behind a SOB rolling along at 70 on a 2 lane highway. 65mph speed limit. Since there was no need to pass him I was a ways back. Being mid day the shadow was right under the SOB, but I could make out something dangling from a distance. Being interested in what would surely break free and go through my radiator soon, I closed the gap. Due to the bright light and deep shadow I was still having a hard time making out what was bouncing around under the SOB when suddenly and simultaneously with my 14 year old we shouted out the answer!

It was a weight distribution bar hanging on by its chain bouncing wildly from side to side!!!

I backed off some and began to flash my headlights and blinkers for MILES, but this SOB was too busy trying to stay on the road going 5-10 over the already generous limit. I decided to pass him and try to get his attention as we pulled along side. As I began to pass the 25+’ SOB I could see clearly the rear of the mid sized SUV was squatted way down and the headlights pointing somewhere between the Moon and Uranus. At this point I was doing 80mph to get by him and had my 14 year old roll the window down and alert him by hanging out the window and pointing wildly at the back of his death train. I glanced over long enough to see him one hand driving while on the phone in the other hand. He had a shocked look on his face to see us flapping about at him. The glance is all I could offer because of the horrible road surface conditions and the concern for the oncoming traffic closing the gap at nearly 150mph combined speed.

Lucky for him (me?) it wasn’t a windy day.

He quickly disappeared in the mirror behind us.
