Phoenix Storm

Last night Phoenix was hit by a major storm:
Crews busy restoring power in parts of the Valley after storm
74 MPH winds were measured at Deer Valley Airport which is a few miles from my home. The trailer is in storage and I will need to check on that today. The pool is a mess, but everything else is fine.

At work this morning a transformer blew up around 7am leaving us in the dark and they sent us all home for the day.

I wonder how the folks in Quartzsite did last night...

I was wondering how folks in Arizona fared. The storm has been pretty ugly here, too, though primarily because of the wind. It's hard to tell how much snow we got, because what we did get was drifted a lot. Even so, I don't think it was that much snow, maybe six inches.

Showers and winds gusting to around 50mph at Leasburg Dam SP in Radium Springs, NM about 15 miles N of Las Cruces. Looks like a good day to stay in the AS and do whatever.

Up in the rim country it looks like they had around 18" of the white stuff. We were up there Saturday and there were only a few patches.

Snow Day for me!

Seeing as my last snow travel day resulted in crashing my Sportrac, I thought I'd stay home today. I've worked out a "work from home occasionally" policy just in case of days like today. I knew it would be bad and came home early from work yesterday.

The best news is I just got a call from my supervisor and we now have an official snow day. (I just clocked out and am now going to play outside, or work on Bambi. No deadbolt yet so I cannot install that but I'm sure I can find something to do!

We sure got bounced around last night, don't think we've ever felt such winds! Noticed this morning some folk neglected to stow their awnings.

Phoenix Storm

We had steady rain all day yesterday and last night the wind really came up. Gusts like I've never heard before in this house. When we woke up this morning, we saw our largest tree had split and the large arm had fallen. So glad it missed the house, the new chicken coop / pen and the lemon tree. If it had been cut down by a professional, it would have been 'timbered' in the very spot. We were very lucky although the chickens are a little flighty this morning.

We were trying to figure when we've taken such winds; the consenses was the Oregon Coast when I swear the wheels lifted off the ground.

Now expecting wind gusts 60-65mph this afternoon in Southern New Mexico and El Paso, TX area also getting hammered. I-10 is supposedly closed near Deming due to blowing dust. Just glad there are no trees near my campsite!

A gust of 91 mph supposedly measured at Aguirre Springs near Las Cruces. Can't find this on my map but seem to remember it's off US70 between LC and Alamogordo near White Sands Missile Range.

You all have my sympathy, but I am glad it stayed south. Here in Longmont, I think we got about 3-4 inches of snow. It is hard to tell as there was already snow on the ground. No wind to speak of. It is gone on its way east now, but it still overcast.
Happy Holidays,
Ken

The weather out side is frightful, but O so delightful!

Sorry about the highwinds, etc. in the Phoenix area. We are now getting hit with the snow in mid state Kansas. Right now its 4:30PM approx. 8 inches on the ground and still coming down. The high winds that you had in AZ is suppose to follow up the snow that is currently coming down. Should be lots of drifted shut roads in the near future. The snow right now is beautiful and just laying where is fell.

I have a daughter that lives in the Phoenix area. I need to call her and make sure all is well.

Hello All From Quartzsite;

We came through the storm O.K. but our Add A Room is history. We were up until 1:30 tying things down. Four other campers lost their tents. One ended up about 1/2 mile away in another part of La Posa Camping.

Had 2 trucks blow over on interstate and a few awnings bit the dust.

Everybody here feels the wind was in the 70 MPH range. Draws were running water but how much rain we got nobody knows.

See ya down the road.

We also never heard winds like this before in this house. I'm glad our Airstream is safely garaged in the back building. Brad, I'm glad your chicken coop is intact. It is the nicest coop we have seen. Our chickens seemed normal this morning.

Hey Bob... Sorry to hear about your Add-a-Room but glad you all made it through the storm OK... We thought about all you good folks up there in Q as we listened to the wind here. We didn't get hit too bad where we're located...but it was windy for sure...the wind chimes were going crazy!

Brad, if you need my chainsaw, let me know. I've been within a mile of a Force 4 tornado and the sound last night was eerily reminiscent. The dogs insisted on sleeping in the bedroom instead of the kitchen. At 2:00, the wind opened the locked doors out to the patio...didn't get much sleep. Watch out folks, coming to a town near you.
