Our "family car" was a 67 Fury Station wagon. Four boys, one girl, two parents, one large dog, plus camping equipment and luggage. No idea how we got all that STUFF on top of the car. Sometimes we had a utility trailer to take the camping gear. I remember one cross country trip with no trailer, from coast to coast. I, the youngest, road on the deck in back with the dog. My brothers were all over 6' by that time.

Thanks Greg, it looks like this is actually something that came out for mainstream use. More than just a movie prop!

Umm...

You do realize the BB was not a documentary, right? Kinda like the guns that never get reloaded or run empty, the cars that always burst into explosive flames when crashed, the gorgeous female police detectives, etcetcetc ...

It can be done!

More than possible. I grew up in a family of 12. There were several years that we loaded up just like the Brady bunch + 3.
Station wagon seating arrangement (no seat belts back then!): 3 in the front bench seat (mom, dad and youngest), 4 in the middle bench seat, 2 in the luggage area between the middle seat and the rear facing back seat, 3 in the rear facing back seat. Car top carrier on top and pulling a popup camper.
I remember the sound of scrapping metal pulling in and out of driveways.

My family was 2 adults, 4 kids, one dog, a 67 chevy truck (350) with a ten foot camper, towing an 18 foot boat, all the luggage, equipment, food and camping supplies. Proving it is even possible to overload a 3/4 ton pickup! I so wish I had a picture.

John Schneider, was a guest on Ray Stevens program the other day on YouTube. While talking about his days on that program he said they used "one car a week"! All those jumpers where "one and done".
