One last trip this season...

I am dreading the fact that I have just one more trip scheduled for the 2018 camping season. We’re taking Daisy to a nice foliage filled campground on a lake 2 weeks from now and then - winterizing and packing up for the winter. This is the most depressing time of the year.....another 6 months before camping again.....

Work gets in the way of camping, and yet, for now, work enables camping - including 3 music festivals, 3 rallies with our local Unit, a solo trip to NYC (at Liberty Marina) and an awesome 35th anniversary celebration with a week on (literally) Lake Ontario and a week on (literally) the ocean in Maine. Such a great year of camping!! Yet - winterizing is a depressing emotional time - while the hope of de-winterizing in April is a highlight of the year - so full of promise!

Such is a camper’s life in New England....what’s happening in your corner of the world?

Camped the second week of September at Mountain Pisgah Campground.
Winterized the 25' last week.
Doing chores and packing the tow vehicle, getting ready to go south for the winter.
Starting the winter camping season next week.
Meeting friends where the 34' is stored in FL.
Hope the hurricane does not change our plans more than a day or two.
Retirement's great!

well since you asked...

I moved last year, still don't have my Airstream at my new house (getting closer tho) I was only camping ONCE this year and that's pathetic, for me. One more trip to Alumnilina in two weeks then winterize . Did I mention that while stored at my friends house her husband backed into her and wrecked three panels (insurance made good and will be repaired) So yes I get it, and cant wait for my Airstream to be home repaired, and wait for spring!!!

We go out in the Winter if the weather is fair, meaning 40's or 50's and sunny-ish. But if it's below freezing...forget about it. When we go out we just don't use the water and we have a small 5 gallon Thetford port-a-potti (leftover from our T@B teardrop days) we use instead of the toilet. It's actually quite handy because to empty it you just carry the cassette to a toilet and dump it and the Thetford usually will get us through a long weekend. Fire up the furnace and life can be good in the Winter, too. We have friends that join us many times and we even have friends in Indy that go out even below freezing! We were out this year once in January & February and a few times in March. The biggest hassle is hooking up the batteries for just a weekend, but for those of you who store your AS at home and can plug in, you don't have that hassle. Some friends are concerned with salt on the roads in Winter but unless the roads have been freshly salted or it's slushy out I trust the clearcoat will save the day just like my aluminum Ford F250. So far no salt related issues.

What's a Winter???

While I understand this will only last a few more days, here in Atlanta we've been experiencing August since, well, August. And, for better or worse, we've been camping like it too.

Since our AS is stored indoors, we won't be winterizing. Our next trip will be to Jackrabbit Mountain in Southern NC and future trips will be based on above-freezing forecasts. Looking forward to visiting those spots that are too hot for us in the summer - West Point Lake, Pine Mountain, maybe Edisto SC.

Pondering a coastal Texas trip during the holidays.

We expect to be at Mother Nature's mercy for the next 3+ months.
